Not applicable, but it is a day to remember Dad.

Sadness entered our home early last week when our baby Clover the Kitteh (pic in my sig) went missing. She's still not home and we are so bummed & disgraught (canvassed, posted pics w/reward, went to all shelters etc now we wait - we haven't given up hope though!) that we actually adopted a HUGE adult male - his name is 'macho' but we call him "Couch" since he is so big. (IMHO a home is not a home without at least 1 cat and 1 dog, we hope for her safe return and have lots of love for more than 2 pets)

Some jerk had him 'de-clawed' (which I think is about as cruel as cruel can get 'legally' for a vet to do to a pet cat) so he can only have minimal garden time with me as he becomes more comfy here with us. (I have an 8ft high wooden privacy fence that will help keep him in the yard though since he cannot climb - poor buggar - I've always been against de-clawing, but know now that it's equal to cutting their front toes off since they have to take out bone, in ppl terms it would be like loosing all 10 toes)

He really started out great and didn't run and hide when brought home. He laid down after inspecting the entire house and today is day 2 he's doing so well! He's eating and using his xxl litter box - but much like a puppy when it was lights out he would cry out, despite our best efforts to let him sleep w/us or with any of the kids, his own bed etc. Today he's sprawled out under the kitchen table - tip to tail he is easily 4+ foot long (he looks kinda silly when he tries to do the 'kneading' thing since he has no claws, rather emasculating for him). Everyone wants the kittens and "Couch" was in the young adult room. When all the other kittehs are fighting for your attention he just sat in the background, overlooked by everyone else but US! These pics below are from petfinder.com (cool site to find your purrrfect pet - and since most are in foster homes/shelters you can still have a pure bred animal without contributing to the puppy mills)!

A very Happy Father's Day to all the dads in your life. I'm off for a nap. It wouldn't be Sunday without one.

...I guess he was adopted once before, but the lady brought him back after a week saying he 'sprays' (she also adopted a kitten at the time). The 'no kill' shelter let us know about the spraying but said they never saw him do it, and he hasn't shown any sign yet either. He rubs up against everything tho, but that's it. (you can see that he is litterally missing half of his front paws from the de-clawing too)

Our family seems to bring out the best in animals that have had a hard life. Our dog Clyde was a train-wreck when we got him and my sister (his foster mum) told us that he MUST be put in his crate at night or you wake up to a 'surprise' on da floor. Well, not here. We did use the crate for 1st couple of nights but after forgetting to put him in several nights and no messes we figured out why he would do that - he hates not being able to check in on everyone while we sleep.

These days if a bedroom door is shut at night he still doesn't make any messes and he is simply the best dog one could ask for! Despite his age (almost 8) he still will play like a puppy. I can take him anywhere with me, without the need of a leash too (he won't leave my heel when we go for visits etc on acreage although he loves to have a wee wander about but he doesn't go out of ear shot).

Clyde took Clover not coming home really hard too (ever see a dog cry? I have, he had tears rolling out the sides of his eyes and howled for 1st 3 nights). Macho is far from thrilled about Clyde but it's early days and Clyde is very patient. They'll be great buddys before long. (they eat side by side out of their own dishes already).
