My dahlia's are dead.
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 08:22 AM by ccharles000
It was like the first flower I tried to grow on my own but I failed. I will never plant again so no plant will suffer my black thumb of putrid death. RIP

:-(

1. My Geraniums are quite sad looking
It's been raining so much - it's just too much for them especially since the pot they are planted in doesn't drain well.

2. I'm having trouble bringing a houseplant back from near death
I let it get about 35 degrees in the house the last cold snap we had and it's still not recovered.

My tomatoes are freaking rocking though!!

Don't give up. Well.. if you don't wanna.

Here's a song. :silly:

Dahlia's Gone - Johnny Cash

PS: hope the song made you grin :)

3. No need to give up. Even experienced gardeners lose plants now and then.
I just keep planting and enjoying the ones that grow. If they die, just plant something else and move on. Sooner or later, you will find something that you really like that grows well in your location. You learn with every success and failure.

5. Please don't feel that you've failed.
"Green thumbs" are a myth. If you enjoy gardening, the real failure would be giving up on something you enjoy and want to learn more about.

6. Dahlias can be "particular." Don't give up!
There are lots of easier flowers. How about marigolds? They are practically indestructible!

Another one that grows like crazy and self-seeds (comes up next year) is balsam. I have them coming up in gravel, in cracks in the sidewalk, and in last year's flower pots. They are really easy to start from seed.

Is there someone in your neighborhood who has healthy looking flowers? Why not strike up a conversation and ask for some advice? They might even share with you! :) Good luck, Grasshopper! :hi:

7. Grow hostas.
They are indestructible. They cannot be killed.

10. But deer love hostas - they wouldn't last one night here
The deer would spot them and go, "Look, a new salad!" Then CHOMP! No more hostas.

9. awww - don't give up
try a bunch of different things till you find what you get along with.

I can't grow a lot of things people say are easy (pothos) and some stuff that is supposed to be difficult I manage to keep alive (have a two year old poinsettia)
