3. I'd completely forgotten about that--thanks, and Zappa on Steve Allen is one of the
related videos too, which was also fascinating.

4. Frank "played" a bicycle on The Steve Allen Show...
...he was into Edgar Varese, who incorporated "everyday sounds" into his musical compositions. Also very Duchampian, I would say.

If you get the chance, have a look at "The World's Greatest Sinner," a film made by legendary character actor Timothy Carey, back around 1963, although it was a work in progress before that for around five years. Zappa did the music for the movie, which revolves around the idea of a "rock star" taking on the status of "god." I have seen it on TCM (Turner Classics).

6. It's actually BEYOND COOL!
Apparently Timothy Carey would not only drive the copies of the reels of the film to the theaters it played in (which amounted to the film's "distribution," apparently limited to the Los Angeles area), he was also said to be the ticket taker at the box office. What better way to be sure you weren't ripped off by the theater owner?

7. Thanks.
I always watched the Monkees when I was a kid, so who knows, I may have seen that. But I wouldn't have known who Frank Zappa was back then anyway.

12. That is hillarious! Frank was worried about the youth of America even then!
I continually am surprised by things I have missed! Thanks!

16. I love the dialogue in that scene

FZ: That song was pretty white.
DJ: Well, so am I. What can I tell you?

That is one of my favorite movies of all time. I never get tired of it.

13. I enjoyed Frank and Moon on Johnny Carson one time...
This was when everyone was making a big deal about how his daughter was named "Moon Unit" so Johnny asked about his kids having unusual names.

Frank told the story about how his son Ahmet didn't like his name because the kids at school called him "Ahmet Vomit"
So Frank let him change his name to Rick.
So the kids at school called him "Rick the Dick"
He didn't like that, so changed back to Ahmet
So the kids at school started calling him "Ahmet the Dick"

Frank's delivery of the story is just so deadpan and hilarious... and Carson loved it too, as I recall.
