25. the only downside
is that if you don't have a shitload of friends who want to play, you have to add total strangers.

So I created a gaming sock puppet, and noe have 500ish friends, none of whom I actually know :D

Thanks to Facebook, you can connect to people from high school and college...
most of whom you couldn't stand and never wanted to speak to again. But hey, they're on your friends list now! Yay!

You need a couple more before it gets interesting.:)
And also at this time of day it's always pretty quiet.

4. I don't get it either, except for the tracking down of friends I AM glad to have found
my best friend from high school who I haven't seen i 36 years is coming to visit in a couple of months ; found him on facebook. on the other hand, once you found somebody it seems a lot more logical to just call or email.

7. There's no big deal. It's just a way to meet old friends or keep in touch with them.
There are little games and groups and things, so you can meet new people if you want, or you can just use it to check in with family and friends every day. Show mom pictures of the grandkids. Finally have that heart to heart with the girlfriend or boyfriend you wished you could have explained things to. Hit on the cute girl you never realize had a crush on you in band. Stuff like that. Chat with an old friend who moved to Qatar. Even keep up with your former next door neighbor in his new house. Form communities around people you know from other sites, or professional organizations, or whatever.

If you don't want to do that, there's not much point in it. If you do, it's nice.

8. Their suggestions are pretty dead on
I'm scared how many people I know from the suggestion list... and none of them are from high school and only a handful from college. :o

10. Yeah, that can get spooky. They recommended one guy because he graduated college
from UT--one of the largest schools in the nation--even though he graduated several years off and had nothing else in common with me, and no common friends. And I knew him. No idea how they would have known that. They also recommended one of my bosses and my boss's son, with no connection except the same city (I did not Friend them, because I don't want them to know how much time I spend on FB at work). And they've almost never recommended someone I didn't know.

They did recommend one of my very few mortal enemies, which put me in a funk for a couple of hours. But only once, and he graduated high school with me, attended one of my colleges, and knew about six friends in common, so you'd think he'd be high on their list.

Their program scares me. I think the Wachowski brothers wrote it!

13. The part that's scary
Two mortal enemies were in their first pool of people they suggested. :o

Like, seriously, the two people I would just HAVE to kick in the nuts out of a sense of personal honor. :o

17. Yeah, well, we often have more in common with our enemies than our friends.
Which is why this guy is such an enemy. Too many of the women who liked one of us liked the other. :)

21. Well the reason these dudes are both enemies
is that I was friends with one, and trying to mack on the other. The "friend" went to the other dude and told him all kinds of nasty shit about me, and then the dude completely threw it in my face. x(

People suck. x(

14. About 3 days ago...
a fundie wanted to friend me! And I'm talking big time crackpot here. Most of his "friends"
had weird names taken from the Bible.I should have taken a screen-shot.The only
link between this guy and myself is that I'm registered on the NY network.
I plugged that hole so now there will be less surprises like that.

18. One high school friend I knew had a crush on me tried to friend me
She had been obvious in high school, and had tried to contact me through Classmates. I didn't try to snub her, but I didn't have an account with Classmates so I could respond to her. Anyway, she found me on Facebook and Friend requested me, and I accepted.

Two minutes after I accepted, she, after reading my profile apparently, sent me a message saying "How can you be an atheist???" and she immediately unfriended me.

I couldn't stop laughing!

28. I didn't think I would like it, but it's pretty cool. After
you get a bunch of friends, old friends, co-workers, old classmates, etc., added, you get a pretty good running 'news feed' that basically amounts to a running conversation anytime you want with people you know. I work at home on my computer, so I enjoy 'talking' to people I know throughout the day like that. I've also reconnected with some of the old gang that I lost touch with over the years, so I'm really happy about that.

Also, Farm Town.

33. I had a close friend that used to post on this debate board
she used to tangle with a right wingnut all the time. One day the guy figured out her real name. Then with some googling she got the poor woman's name address and even where she worked. He posted all the stuff and threatened to report her to her job as an anti government radical (this was during the Bush years) and she started getting hang up calls at home and work. The guy got banned from the board, and the info war deleted (although with the internet very little gets truly deleted), and the guy still knew all her information. It was pretty frightening stuff. Because of stories like that, I am very careful with my personal information.
