5. I have very good parents
Of course, I didn't realize it until I became a parent myself. I'm still striving to be as good at parenting as they are.

7. I am different from my parents. Not better, not worse than.
I would not be who I am today if not for their influence.

So, better than? NO
worse than? NO

I am my own self.

They did the best they could, considering the times and the problems they endured.

9. better than my dad. can't really say that about my mom.
dad was an alcoholic, so, being sober, and not feeling that male children need a good beating regularly make me somewhat better. i share many of his flaws, tho.
i can't say i am a better person than my mom. she did a lot of things better than me, like be tolerant and get along with people. but i am a better parent, i think, even though i sure wish i could figure out how she got away with the laid back approach that she had. and i am a better cook.

11. I guess that it would depend on how you would define better
I am different from them and seek to be better than them. In some areas, this is not hard for me, but in other areas it is.

13. A dear friend told me recently
that she thought she was better and would do better than her parents when she was young.

Now that she is 65 , she sees the world through a whole new lens. Her parents were wonderful people, I remember them well.

I would never say I was better than my parents . I did not walk in their shoes.
