4. one of my favorites
I wish I had more friends who liked classical music... luckily my mother is a music teacher, and my sister is a french horn performance major, so I have some family who gets it :D

5. I took my sister to see Peter Schickele in the early 80s
when he came to town. Of course, we all love classical music in our family, too. My sister went with me to see Houston Grand Opera do Philip Glass' "Akhnaten". I remember half the audience didn't return after the first act and there was a couple near us complaining about having to read the libreto. Well, duh! It was a brand new opera. You better read it or you won't know what's going on, dimwit ;)

I loved it and later went with another friend to see a free, outdoor performance of The Joshua Tree also by Glass.

What's great about Schickele/PDQ Bach, however, is that you also need to be aware of many genres of music since he includes a lot of popular culture in his pieces.

I also need to get the latest DVD by Schickele as it was recorded in Houston :D
Something to consider giving to your family members for Christmas, eh? ;)

6. i always got frustrated
when I would play his stuff for other people, then see blank faces when they didn't recognize themes from pop culture, etc.

I REALLY want to see him live. My parents saw him once years ago, where he was 20 minutes late. The audience was starting to get pissed, and suddenly PS swung onto the stage from the balcony on a rope :D

I wish I could have seen it

7. That must have been the same tour we saw
:D

There are other classical parody-artists out there, too. Ever heard "The Portsmouth Sinfonia - The World's Worst Orchestra" ?
They truly are the worst orchestra and proud of it

9. I don't doubt it!
lol! :P

I may have one of their albums somewhere, but I haven't looked through my collection in a while (way back in the back of a thoroughly packed walk-in closet.) It would be easier to find CDs online ;)

Oh, here's another funny composer, too: Bernie Green Plays More Than You Can Stand

....I like Beethoven symphonies."

I used that line throughout high school. Our band director was a big PDQ Bach fan. :)
