I have no idea what the current popular music is/songs are. Help?
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 10:27 AM by Bertha Venation
I listen to XM radio. Usually the Coffee House channel. Two of the songs currently on that channel are "Modern World" by David Wilcox and "A Theory" by Tracy Chapman. Is either of these songs playing on broadcast radio? Or are they popular downloads?

There are great songs on that channel -- better songs, moving and unique (which these are not) -- but these two are current earworms.

What's currently popular? What kind of radio stations are there out there (oldies, hip hop, metal, etc.)? Surely in the time since I last listened to broadcast radio, there's new stuff.

I am so uninformed. I feel ignorant. Help?

1. I like the coffe house station, too
On sirius, I listen to the coffee house, too (channel 30) and I hear a lot of music I like. I also don't have a clue as to what is popular, I just usually buy the stuff I hear that I especially liked.

3. BIRTHDAY SEX! BIRTH-DAY SEX!
That's the chorus of one of the songs I'm hearing on the local top 40 station. No idea who the artist is, though.

4. In this case, it might be good to remain ignorant and uninformed.
Current popular music sucks.
There are a couple of decent rock/alternative songs out now.

5. If you like the Coffee House channel, check out Jim Boggia.
I know they play some of his friends like Ben Arnold and Phil Roy on there. http://www.jimboggia.com

6. Oh, don't forget XM's 20 on 20 channel. And try Billboard.com.
I just looked at the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and I think I've heard about 1.5 of the songs on there. If you include the Top 50, my total goes up to 4.5.

7. It is one of the joys of being older ...
... not having to "keep up" with popular music. If there is something new that's any good, it will be around for a long time. You can find it later.
