Man Sues After Being Released From Jail In His Underwear

The story of Halsey Wasson is a lesson for us all: Never threaten a cop without your pants on.

Wasson, arrested last fall after he threatened an Ankeny police officer and made a move toward a shotgun, has sued Polk County for "humiliation and distress" caused when authorities released him from the Polk County Jail in his boxer shorts.

Court papers say Wasson, 27, was turned loose on Sept. 1 "barefoot and clad only in his underwear garments."

"He had to crouch behind jailhouse pillars, to no avail, to attempt to protect his privacy and was exposed in this condition for some time," the lawsuit alleges.

Documents contend that Wasson's privacy was invaded and that "he still is adversely affected."
