Porn Stars Complain About Lack Of Plot.
From the NY Times, no less.

The actress known as Savanna Samson once relished preparing for a role. “I couldn’t wait to get my next script,” she said.

There’s no reason to look at them anymore, she said, because her movies now call almost exclusively for action. Specifically, sex.

The pornographic movie industry has long had only a casual interest in plot and dialogue. But moviemakers are focusing even less on narrative arcs these days. Instead, they are filming more short scenes that can be easily uploaded to Web sites and sold in several-minute chunks.

Some in the industry would prefer their sex with a little more character development.

Ms. Samson, for example, said she took her acting seriously and used to prepare studiously for her roles, like the character she played in the 2006 movie “Flasher.” She said she played a psychotic who, because of the way her mother treated her, “had an obsession with flashing and doing things in public.”

“I used to have dialogue,” said Ms. Samson, whose given name is Natalie Oliveros, and who is one of the industry’s biggest stars. “Getting it on in one hardcore scene after another just isn’t as much fun,” she added.

Oh yeah, I remember the days when nudie films stimulated me intellectually as well.

Then Russ Meyer died and the industry just went straight downhill after that.

2. I misread the title, skipping the 'l' in the last word
Therefore, I was expecting an entirely different article.

5. Actually, yeah. Didn't you see "Boogie Nights" and "The Big Lebowski?"
Burt Reynolds's character and Ben Gazara's character both had that discussion, about how video was killing the industry because it was all just about filming the act, and not building a plot. "The largest errogenous zone is the brain," Gazara said.

Not that I'm a porn star afficianado or anything, but the "Vintage" porn stuff used to have plots. Nothing spectacular, usually, but there were relationships between characters, and the sex had some anticipation by building up a relationship. Now it's all contortionist torture scenes with something some people might call sex mixed in. Looks more like an attempt to dominate and degrade than to excite.

I, um, only watch porn films for the article, by the way. And I'm not Jobycom, I'm just using his computer. I'm the maid. Yeah.

22. Ms mitchum was shocked by how much violence occured in 70s porn
I had to explain to her that's when porn filmmakers thought that they could make "real" movies.
And since so many "real" movies contain violence...

wind up blowing their lines anyway, so this might be a positive development.

9. There's more plot to a 1978 porno than there is in a 2008 porno...
Nice to know even porn stars want more substance to go along with the chaff(ing)...

13. An apt quote from an awesome movie.
"Regrettably, it's true, standards have fallen in adult entertainment. It's video, Dude. Now that we're competing with the amateurs, we can't afford to invest that little extra in story, production value, feeling. People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone." -- Jackie Treehorn, "The Big Lebowski"

The same's true today. just substitute "the internet" for "video."

18. Was it all that good?
Seems to me that this 'good old days' stuff is nearly always just romanticized nonsense.

I've seen some 'classics' and they weren't all that, really. Nothing that really merited not hitting 'fast foward'.

19. it was much better than Deep Throat, its contemporary
I haven't watched porn in years, but my memory was that movie wasn't too bad and parts were actually erotic. it had a bit of a plot. Suicidal "virgin", devil teaches her lots of techniques - some cool fantasy scenes and then her personal sentence for the suicide. It was good compared to the basic meat slamming, face shots that were on video in the mid 80's - about the time we quit renting and moved out here (where we have slow dial up and teenagers  )

I thought that was odd since they all seem to be stoned. Since when did anyone want a plot in a porn film?
