2009 is going to go down as one TOUGH damn year
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 09:37 PM by TexasLady
at least on a personal level. I gotta vent here. I have been SO overwhelmed that I hardly have the time to log in and post.

My recovery has been astounding. My lost leg is going to hopefully soon be replaced with that gorgeous forty grand prosthetic in just a few months. I want to again acknowledge the INCREDIBLE and WONDERFUL people here at DU when we faced hard times.

We are on our feet again!!! However, finances are an EASY fix in the scheme of things, not that all of ya'lls help wasn't EXACTLY what we needed. I can only repay for the time being with an awesome attitude, gratefulness at being healthy and alive, and the chance to mentor those in my position. I have been able to do that, thankfully.

Here's what the kick in the ass is. My 16 yr old son, who thank goodness has great insurance, is going through back surgery to correct a 52 degree curve in his spine. It causes him a lot of pain, and while the surgery won't cure it, it will stop any further curvature. May I ask for your blessings, good thoughts, good stories for those that have gone through this, etc? Im worried to DEATH!

His surgery is on the 16th. He has given two units of blood, has had a physical, been to the docs that will be doing this three times now, etc...

I believe soooo strongly that what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger. I haven't had a tough year like this since 97..divorce, death of brother and tornado. Hey, maybe this means our dues are gonna get paid in lump sums, and life is gonna be silver linings from here on out!

Just needin some good vibes from those in this world that are the greatest.

That way I can pass them on to him next week. He's scared, and I need to be his rock.

edited to add a pic of him, his name is Jon.

9. Thank you so much
he's a strong sonofagun. He loves to skateboard. He misheard the doc about a month ago to say that he would never skateboard again. I told him he was wrong wrong WRONG, and to ask again. The doc said he'd be walking in a day or two, and just a month or two..he'd be doing most anything he'd want, with the doc's ok. and almost complete recovery that first year.

This is scoliosis, and apparently it happens this severely to girls mostly, but he just happened to get it pretty badly for a guy. I am going to update just as SOON as we know he is doing well.

14. So are all the amazing people here!
Yourself included..I can't do this 'strong stuff' by myself! I know that it is from the good and kind thoughts of others that keep a person going. I appreciate your kind wishes, and I just know that he will be skating again in no time! Those grades, this year...he had best work his hardest!!! lol...

Thank you.

15. Well, I know we all do what we have to do.
I also know that I am often barely holding on myself - and I have nothing NEAR what you've gone through to contend with. So yeah - you're amazing. No arguments allowed!

You and your son are really lucky to have one another. :)

17. Hi, sweetie.
Saw this earlier and didn't get around to responding. Wanted to kick it back up and wish all of you all my best.

I'm sure Jon is very scared but he has one fine example in his momma that all this too shall pass and the brave soul prevails.

 to all of you down there.
