Have You Ever Fought Dark Forces?

Why the hell did I miss this game ~15 years ago?

Especially considering the impact it had on other first person shooters.

And it's really, really fun, too.

3. The best 2 1/2d shooter out there IMO.
And that's not just because I'm a Star Wars nerd.

5. Agreed
Though it's likely because I am a huge Star Wars nerd... Came into the series with Jedi Outcast and have never left it. The technical innovations in this, though, are just interesting to look at from the perspective of a modern gamer. It was the first FPS to have levels with multiple floors.

6. Duke Nukem 3d touched on the idea
but never really implemented it throughout the game.

This was actually the first FPS I owned. I'd played Doom and a few other Doom clones and Duke Nukem before this one, but the only thing Duke Nukem had over Dark Forces was the multiplayer.

And when Dark Forces 2 came out, the biggest selling point was the multi-player combat. :) Which I never really got into, by the time I had a decent internet connection Outcast had come out. But I kicked ass in network play with Outcast and Academy.

10. That's #1 in my book!
It goes Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, Dark Forces, Jedi Academy. Never played the expansion pack Mysteries of the Sith.

I cut my FPS teeth on an old game called Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold. Not bad, but no Doom or Dark Forces.
