I'm an author. Let's just say I'm not as popular as she is. At the same time, it was nice to know that she struggles with the same issues I do.

I also appreciated her message: Never, never, NEVER give up.

:woohoo:

1. I walked into the gym and saw this woman glued to the TV.

She'd finished her exercises but couldn't tear herself away from the J.K. Rowling profile. I hadn't even known it was on but was glad to watch too.

Rowling came off as somehow resilient and vulnerable at the same time but basically seemed to have her head screwed on right.

She's right about persistence, isn't she? Best wishes on your own writing. :hi:

2. I thought it was really well-done
The authors I know didn't write their first book on Scotland's version of welfare, but they had to go through long years of rejection and self-doubt, too. I was also fascinated by how much of herself she injects into the plotting of her books.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! :hi:

4. You do have to find your motivation.
I love getting encouragement myself, but a lot of it is just being stubborn and knowing what reasons I have for writing -- i.e., something to say, doing it for myself, doing it for my readers.

J.K. Rowling came across as still rather emotionally raw and wounded in her interviews, and was pretty judgmental of herself (i.e., feeling she'd made a mess of her life, going through depression). That's understandable, given where she's been, but of course she's also a lesson in our life experience make the person, the writer.
