This is about rattlesnakes...

Bull Snakes (also called Gopher snakes) are docile and do our habitats a great service by keeping down vermin populations. They eat mice, rats, rabbits, and prairie dogs, and they keep down Rattlesnake populations as well. Bull snakes are not aggressive by nature and will rarely bite unless provoked.

4. they are both after the same prey...by eating all the prey the
rattlesnake has no need to come around.

10. and cats. I never see snakes in my yard because I have cats...
maybe this is all old folklore but, that is what I have always heard.

8. I always heard they were like King snakes - immune to rattlesnake venom
and would eat them as well.

Bull snakes occasionally eat juvenile rattlers.

11. Any idea why I wouldn't have King snakes around here?
By all rights they should be, location is good, guidebooks say they are here, prey sure as hell is here, I know they are around the San Pedro valley, but I have never seen them here.


two pix my sons took walking up a little draw, within 200 feet of each other
