Can someone explain to me why Jackson Browne is in the Hall of Fame?
Okay ZZ- Top sure I can see that (even if they did sellout)
Prince- sure I can see that
Bob Seger- as much as I can't stand his music I can still see that
George Harrison- What in the hell took so long?

But Jackson Browne? I don't care if "The Boss" did introduce him he gets in for 4 songs and hanging around with the Eagles and being "sexy"?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/music_rock_hall

Browne co-wrote "Take it Easy" for the Eagles, then was successful on his own with "Doctor My Eyes," "The Pretender" and "Running on Empty," chronicling the turn of the 1960s utopian dream into the cynical '70s.

The "No Nukes" concert organizer has mixed the political with the personal throughout his career.

"I want to thank you for allowing me to put my personal politics in my songs," he said. "Music is a very empowering thing. I'm thankful for having had a lifetime doing it. Thank you for this job."

12. No Such Thing
There is no such thing as a good song about life on the road. People whining about how hard it is to live as a musician, when we all know they are living their dream, is offputting to the extreme.

I hate all those types of songs.

The worst: Journey's Open Arms. Video of a song about how tough life is on the road, shows the band boarding a Lear Jet, and getting out of limousines. Hmmmmm! Looks pretty darned tough to me, boys.

I can't remember the group but the hook/chorus(I'm not a musician) is from another song. He updated the middle but that didn't really stand the test of time (8 track reference).

He was one of the founders of a sub-genre of music that was quite a turning point in music in the early 70's (California Country), when the music industry needed to get away from the turbulent 60's.

The early stuff, before the Silver Bullet Band. It was gret music--"Heavy Music", "East Side Story" "Persecution Smith" and tons of others. By the time the Silver Bullet Band hit, I quit following him--I felt he sort of sold out. But he certainly paid his dues--playing bars and high sclool sock hops.

You object to Browne's induction because he's overtly political? Or because his speech offended you? Or -- what?

I can't talk about Jackson Browne's great contributions to rock & roll; I'm not a columnist for Rolling Stone. I could wax on about the influence he had on the life & music of my favorite & best music teacher, or about the five minutes the two men shared backstage when Browne came to an elementary school talent show to see his niece perform, or about the influence his music had on my life when it was falling apart and I wanted to die, but I won't.

So what if someone you don't approve of being there is in the HOF? What skin is it off your nose, hon?

JM2¢ -- YMMV

He was about to go on stage, 15 minutes after Springsteen. The stage folks were saying to him "don't worry about the crowd. They're not booing, they saying BRRRRUUUUUCCCE!" To which Browne replied, "What's the difference?"

Just wanted to remind folks of the respectful relationship Jackson has had for his "buddy".

17. a damn good songwriter
"Lives In The Balance" is one of the great 80's albums - an honest look at the Reagan era. He led a lawsuit by the Christic Institute against Oliver North and the other felons behind Nicaragua. Browne held benefit concerts for the legal fees of the C.I., and aid for the uprooted and wounded of Nicaragua. He is a real activist.

"Lawyers In Love" was eerily prescient about the way the west economically exploits the Third World, especially since the fall of the Iron Curtain.

Also, he produced Warren Zevon's first album, and helped finance the demos, becoming his biggest booster in the industry.

He is far more deserving than Prince, and as much as I love George, he only had one good solo album - the rest are cures for insomnia.

Seger is one the greats too. I bet fewer than 3 DUers even know the fantastic stretch of albums ranging from 1970's "Mongrel" to 1974's "Seven" (his seventh album, he began recording LP's in 1968). Plus, "Live Bullet" is indisputably one of the 10 greatest live albums of all time. He can sing rings around Browne, Springsteen, or any of the other 'heartland' rockers.

ZZ Top brought straight blues into the rock mainstream, and honestly too - rather than those horrible Brit parodies as exploited by Zep and others.

I'd say Prince was the only one not worth honoring.

the rest I wouldn't have voted for.

Though I love JB (I have most of his early albums) and his politics (I've supported him by going to many of his fund raising shows), I'm not sure he's worthy of the HOF. I think noteworthy musical contributions and innovations should be the deciding factors. Even though I can't stand Seger or ZZ Top I think they are more deserving than JB.

66. OTOH, many of the BEST bands are not in there, nor will they ever be.
Personally, I don't think that anyone who even did so much as be in the same room with the Eagles, should EVER be in the hall of fame. But I assume the eagles themselves are in there, as well.

That invalidates the whole thing, so far as I am concerned.
