What's left of Skynyrd will release new album "God + Guns" on Beatles re-release day 09-09-09
The Beatles have pretty much sucked all of the oxygen out of the room on "09-09-09" with the re-release of their entire catalog, but Skynyrd has this one in the chute:

AMERICAN ROCK LEGENDS LYNYRD SKYNYRD ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE AND RELEASE DATE

New York, NY – May 19, 2009 – Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records announced today the title and release date for the new album from legendary American rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd. God & Guns will be released on September 29th. The new album features 13 tracks embodying Skynyrd’s classic sound. It was recorded in Nashville with legendary producer Bob Marlette. The first single from the album, “Still Unbroken,” will be shipping to rock radio in July, and will be accompanied by a new video, set to shoot in Nashville next month. God & Guns marks the first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will be co-headlining the Rock Rebels Tour this summer with their good friend Kid Rock.

2. Skynyrd kinda sucks now.
35 years ago, not so much.

I saw a recent concert of theirs on TV on New Years Eve, and they were clearly phoning it in. You think WE'RE sick of Freebird? Man, you could see it in their eyes!

3. That band is a joke now
They used to be able to rip out some good shit, now, the lead singer is some neo-Confederate jackass who practically cums all over the Confederate flag he wraps himself in onstage. I caught a performance of theirs on VH1, doing "Free Bird," and it was just sad.
