Holy freakin' crap. Lois! The name "KamaAina" may shortly become obsolete.
I hope you all have enjoyed your "Hawaiian words and phrases of the day" over the years. I have, however, just been offered a job on the U.S. mainland, specifically, San Jose (did you know? It's America's tenth largest city! Could've fooled me -- and I was just there...).

It's for about the same money -- but the agency there is very definitely on the way up. As you know (unless you have me on Ignore :P ), this one has been circling the drain for a solid year and a half. My personal life hasn't been going anywhere, either; again, if you've been paying attention, this was thrown into sharp relief by a brief, failed encounter about three months ago.

So, in the words of the immortal Clash, "Should I stay or should I go?"

1. I can't imagine leaving Hawaii, but if it is better for you in the long run,
go for it. You never know what will be there for you! Good luck!

2. Big changes for sure.
Congratulations on the job offer and the move to the mainland. I've never been to Hawaii but I have been to San Jose. I hope everything works out for you, for the best :)

Good luck with everything.

4. Look at it this way
you'd be next in line as the resident Hawaiian-manque type, since Opihi only pops in now and then these days. :-)

5. My dear KamaAina!
I was thinking about you all weekend, and hoping things were going well...

What do I say?

GO, dammit!

Ah, San Jose...I did the major part of my growing up there...went to San Jose State, got married there...

Go, sweetie!

And don't look back!

Good for you, getting that job offer!

6. Well, if you have to leave Hawai'i
you could do a whole lot worse than San Jose. A whole lot. :hi:

7. If I lived in Hawaii, I don't think there'd be anything in the world strong enough to make me leave
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 07:59 PM by Tommy_Carcetti
And that's coming from someone who a) has never been to Hawaii and b) loves his own state of Florida very much. Hawaii just looks as perfect as it gets.

But congrats on the job nonetheless.

14. And I hear they're getting Killer Heatley to boot!
:puke:

Well, it beats no hockey at all, which is what we have here. There has been talk of an exhibition game; however, there is only one building on the island big enough to hold a 200' x 80' ice surface: UH's Stan Sheriff Center, which, by law, may only be used for nonprofit purposes.

I had really great daydreams about being able to fly to Hawaii and couch surf with you H2O Man and opi.

Seriously though, congrats on the offer! :toast:

IIRC, I met you at one of the first Bay Area DUers picnics at GG park years and years ago. :hi: Once you get settled in, let us know and we can have a DU meet!

20. Um, no, that wasn't me.
The last time I had been to the Bay before last weekend was nearly 15 years ago (shame on me!), many years before DU. And the only DU meetup I've ever been to was in NYC a few years ago; I happened to be in town visiting Mom.

22. I thought she was in Concord
we had that discussion on my thread in the Kolly-four-knee-ya forum. Rather a daunting trip for a transit guy like myself.

23. I must reallty be out of it.
I though she was in the south bay??

I think I need to go away and take a nap or something. :D

Actually, transit to the larger BA is pretty darn good. It might take you awhile, but you can get anywhere you need to.

24. You're right. San Jose to central Contra Costa is a daunting challenge without a car.
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 05:56 PM by Gormy Cuss
It takes at least three transfers from three different transit agencies (and mixed modalities of trains/street cars/buses)to trek in that direction.

p.s. pp does live in the Concord area-- so do I.

eta: Welcome Back, Kotter..I mean KamaAina.
