Well then, if I'm going to try to quit boozing...
which I've just decided to do, in spite of the fact that I work at and live above a bar, I'm going to have to find other things to do with my time. I've started playing World of Warcraft, and I'm taking up the guitar. The other thing is, I'm going to have to learn to drink something else that my body does not want. Does anyone have know of a tea that doesn't taste like hell? I dug through my cupboards and found some English Breakfast (which isn't doing the trick in spite of diluting it with milk and sugar to the point where its own parents wouldn't recognize it), decaffeinated Earl Grey, Orange Spice, and some kind of mint tea... Any tea drinkers out there have some suggestions for an introductory tea?

1. Chai tea with cream & sugar
and, for most other times, Pellegrino (or some other) sparkling mineral water with a slice of citrus in it.

We get ours at Trader Joes. They carry some interesting teas too.

Best of luck to you... :hi:

2. I'm not a huge tea drinker, but my wife is
We get our tea online. There are a lot of good web sites. Get yourself a good tea pot and try whole leaf teas instead of tea bags.

This is the teapot I have which is a good one that's not too expensive:
http://www.amazon.com/Chantal-Ceramic-2-Quart-Infuser-Glossy/dp/B000QTX0V6/ref=sr_1_23

I don't particularly like the ceramic infuser because it's a bit hard to clean, but it's no big deal. If I had it to do over again, I might look at ones with a metal mesh infuser.

3. Stash's Green Tea
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 09:25 AM by nuxvomica
Make a big mugful with 4 bags and drink it first thing in the morning. It will be so bitter your face will screw up on the first gulp but thereafter it will taste wonderful. It's got a kind of beer-like flavor at that concentration.

4. Try Chai Tea with lots and lots of milk in it. Yummy! Or try green tea
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 10:40 PM by applegrove
made with hot water just before the boil and steaped no longer than two minutes otherwise the green tea tastes horrible.

7. Oxygen is free...
the booze costs money; which is primary concern with my drinking hobby.

10. What kinds of alcohol
Not that I'm advocating you go back to alcohol if you want to quit, but I've always been able to get a 1.75L of canadian whiskey and a 30 pack of beer (icehouse or PBR) for $30 total. Of course I don't drink that much and that lasts me about a year.

If you are going through a fifth every few days then it could add up.

14. The night that I made that OP
I spent more than that at the pub I work at, with employee discount, in a bit under two hours. Ten shots of hundred proof alcohol, six Killian's, and that's not counting the beer and two shots that were bought for me.

8. I have been a tea drinker for many decades - I like cheap stuff, like
Red Rose, Tetly British Blend, even Walmart's house brand, which is under $2 a box of 100. I also really taught myself guitar when I stopped drinking, still don't drink after over 21 years, and I'm geting much better on guitar.....Also learned to cook well and started doing outdoor stuff such as bike riding and hiking, etc.

You will also be amazed how much money you have left when you don't drink.

Good luck - learn to enjoy yourself.

13. No hangover, though.....
(and, for the first few months after you quit, EVERYTHING will remind you of booze one way or another.)

Good luck to you - I wish you success.

15. I'm not the original poster, but I did quit drinking six years ago
I discovered after 30 years of drinking, being sober was just as entertaining as being drunk.

11. As far as tea
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 07:59 PM by Juche
Back when I tried getting into it I would just buy sampler boxes at the grocery store that had 4 bags each of 5 different flavors in it. I probably got to try 15-20 different teas doing that, and of those maybe 2-3 were good and the rest were between passable and bad. So that is your best bet, buy a sampler box and keep trying them until you find one you can stand.

There is also always kool aid.

 It's been 13 days since my last cigarette, and I think it's for good. I have no intention of going back to smoking. I hope this works out for you! :hi:

18. I don't know how far you are down the rabbit hole
with the boozing but I'd stick with something decaffeinated. Green tea has a lot of caffeine and black teas have a significant amount as well. My dad was a heavy drinker and when he quit, he couldn't sleep very well for a long time. He also craved sweets and kept a shit load of sugar free candy stashed all over the place and in his pockets. When he died and we went through all of his clothes, every jacket pocket had a pile of sugar free candy in it.

Good luck!
