My freeper Mother keeps sending me right wing emails
About Obama and his healthcare and plenty of other stuff. I would have a more of a hard time telling her that I am a Liberal than I did telling her that I was gay. Good lord, Mother!

My parents are both racist republicans and they know I'm liberal. They don't try and change me because they know how strong willed I am. In the heat of the moment I once told them them, "The sooner they're generation is gone the better!" I felt very bad for saying it.
I figured out a long time ago not to argue with them, but it's tough. What does bring me peace is to just love them and have have compassion for them.

It always helps me when I think about loved ones who have a totally different socio political view than my own.

after I had calmed down. It was the racism I was addressing in that specific instance. Both my parents are now old enough for Medicare, I'm glad they have it. I wish they could open their hearts and minds but I'm not holding my breath. I am so glad for progressives like you though! :hug:

"Mom -- I really think we need health insurance reform" (cast it as "insurance" reform, not healthcare reform). "People are dying because they don't have insurance. That's not Christian" (if she's Christian), or maybe "That's not American."

One of the Big Ten is "You shall not lie." After setting her, er, straight (no pun intended) on one or two points, put it in terms she'll understand how much it distresses you (and what the heck, the baby Jesus, too) when she tells a lie.

Reply All can be your friend. That's how I got a relative to stop sending me crap on the Clintons. She had my name added to about 20 friends & co-worker she would send this bullshit about the Clintons. So one time it was about the '50 people the Clinton's had murdered' email - I 'replied all' the information from Snopes.

She was so pissed. I told I would keep doing it and oh, don't try sending it BCC because I had the list of her friends - I would just add them back in and send my response.

Emails stopped.

16. I changed my e-mail address & didn't give my new one to freepturd friends...
. . . in a move to avoid all the RW sewage they spread unabated. (Including one that had to have been about 12 years old, about the Clintons and Ted Kennedy setting up a welfare state. Ick. :puke:)
