Just saw a car accident.
Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 05:31 PM by m-jean03
Jesus, my hands are still a little shaky. Never saw a dead body before.
Groceries, blood all over the street. Guess someone ran a red light, the woman went flying, and then got run over by a truck. I made it into the bookstore and started browsing before I realized I was trembling and couldn't concentrate on what I was reading. A man outside offered me a cigarette, and I almost took it...

Happy Tuesday...:-(

1. Jeez, I'm sorry you had to see that.
Wow. I've seen it myself and it is very upsetting.

2. UGH! how awful....
Acknowledge that you've been through something pretty rough and take it easy for a couple days. Pamper yourself. Try to eat well and rest. Good luck.

4. Think about how much worse it's going to be for that woman's family.

16. I just mean, in terms of getting a little perspective, think about them.
If one were feeling that he or she was the victim of having witnessed this event, just think about who the real victims are. The perspective might be useful in terms of helping deal with the situation.

However, the original poster clearly isn't having this problem and already has this perspective.

21. Responded to an accident once...
(as am EMT) -- a car had gone off the road, hit a tree, the female passenger was killed instantly. Bad enough. What made it worse was that the woman's sister was the one driving, and her 15 year old daughter was in the car behind them and witnessed the whole thing.

That was a tough one, even when you've been to hundreds of accidents...

8. I know.
I feel terrible for them, whomever they are. I'm thankful it was no one I know -- (though that's a weird thing to say, I guess, because I'm not HAPPY it was this person either.)

6. Glad you didn't take the cigarette!
I quit smoking a week ago...

Anyways, take care and don't dwell on it too much. As horrible as it was, it happens everyday....

13. Welcome to DU...
I quit when I was a teenager. I don't know why I ever did it -- I was really dumb. I'm out of college now and this is the first time in years I've ever wanted one.

17. thank you :)
...but one is twenty and after a twenty is another twenty, and so on and so on....

I started when I was 16. I'm 27 now and I finally quit for good. It took me several tries but now I'm on the right mindset.

7. You saw the whole thing happen?
Or just the aftermath? Sorry you had to see either one.

A man I spoke to at the book store saw it happen.

11. Believe me, you'll never be the same
I saw somebody get run over when I was young and the whole rest of my life is dedicated to making sure people don't get hurt when I'm around. Even at the cost of my own life.

And everyone's driving goes to crap. Pileups everwhere. And what happened to the 3 to 5 were were supposed to get? Sorry you had to see that. How horrible.

15. I'm so sorry to hear this
Where are you in WA, hon?
What a scary thing to witness. Years ago I saw a motorcyclist mortally injured in a wreck. So many people tried to save him before the paramedics got there. It's amazing how clearly I can remember it all, even though it was about 25 years ago.
I'm sad for this poor person and the people who loved her. :grouphug:

18. Bellingham here.
Yes, too scary, as this kind of thing reminds you of your own mortality.
I'm very sad for this person and her loved ones, too.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.

20. That's awful
Try not to think about it. I feel sorry for the woman's family and friends, but it's an awful thing for you to have to see, too.
