What music have you been listening to lately?
Most recently:

Cheap Trick - The Latest (they are still making wonderful music! I think it improves on Rockford by a little, and that's hard to do. Grade: A+)

Ashley Tisdale - Guilty Pleasure (pure escapism CD; grade: B- )

samples from Jessie James (I'm mostly liking the Christina Aguilera meets country sound)

Gloriana's self-titled CD (they are like a more-commercial Little Big Town (LBT is great!), but they don't lose enjoyability. There's youthful exuberance here and craft put in; it doesn't feel artificial. The middle doesn't quite match the first 5 songs and the last two, but they set a high standard. I would like them to feature Cheyenne Kimball more in the future. Grade: B+)

3 Letters To Cleo albums - they are must haves! (listened to Aurora Gory Alice, Wholesale Meats and Fish, and Go! AGA shows the rock side, WMAF the pop side, and Go! a combination.)

I got some good news about upcoming albums: Jessica Harp confirmed in September, and Avril has a November release scheduled.) And Anna Nalick is working on new music again!

1. I haven't been listening to much lately
I like Jessie James' song Wanted. She does sound somewhat like Christina Aguilera. I'm not a Chritina fan (a few of her songs are good). I'll listen to Jessie's CD when it comes out.

I've been listening to this song called "I Turn to You" a lot. It was a recommended song on my iTunes. I liked the song when it originally came out but I had forgotten to download it.

I've heard about Avril's CD and I'm a little pessimistic about it. Supposedly she and her husband wrote/produced much of it. It's also said to be less pop and more acoustic with the focus on her voice. This all worries me.

2. Since I enjoyed Avril's Under My Skin, I think..

I'll enjoy the upcoming one. I just can't see her going all alternative.

I'm not really a Christina fan either. Though her voice is better than Mariah's and Celine's.

on edit: that Mel C song is fun; it's from Northern Star. It's a decent CD but a little Garbage-lite at times.

3. I think Mariah and Celine are better singers

I've enjoyed most of Avril's music too. It's the fact that she and her husband are responsible for much of the music that worries me most. Avril is one of the people who I think try to portray themselves as "writers" but probably contribute much less to the music than they publicly admit.

4. Oh well, not much to say about that first point
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 04:17 PM by mvd
We just disagree.

The thing about Avril is that these are older songs, so I feel they'll be like before, and she can put new twists in. She needs a chance as a writer.

9. Thanks for reminding me about the Raveonettes
I'm low on money because I just spent on parts for my new computer that my cousin is building for me. But I'll check out their new CD at some point.

Can't believe it took me that long to buy the new Cheap Trick CD. :hi:
