So another post just made me think about a question military/GLBT related.

If you were drafted in previous years (say, to Vietnam, which I was a kid during, and thus do not know the answer to this question) could you at that time have gotten out by claiming to be GLBT (whether it was true or not)?

1. Basically, no. They pretty much suspended discharges

based on being gay because they needed bodies to ship overseas. Then as soon as we weren't needed anymore, regardless of how good their service records were, they were hunted down and discharged after the wars.

There were some exceptions. If your gayness became an open issue and a problem then you were discharged. But as long as they could refuse to discharge you they did.

In other words, if you wanted to be discharged, then hell no. If they wanted to discharge you, then yes.
