Serious Question: Does posting on DU limit career opportunities?
I have been posting on DU for a couple of years. What I post here, to me, is like speaking in a public forum--a gathering spot or a bar. The main difference is that it is recorded and searchable.

I think it is part of the current technology. I thin the next generation of *everything* will have grown up with a different concept of 'privacy'. I grew up with the internet. I remember when my family got Prodigy in the home and it was little more than an encyclopedia with the weather.

By the time my younger sister grew up(ten years younger), she didn't know a world without email, PM, facebook and the like. Privacy to her is much different than what I recognize.

So, my question is whether modern technology and the issue of privacy will matter in politics of tomorrow? More specifically, would being a poster on DU limit a career in politics or public service?

2. From a non-techie:
How can they identify us? We don't use our real names.

4. I have thought of that.
Plausible deniability. But, then you run the risk of being caught in a lie. I guess the key would be never mention it.

5. Well, if you use your real first name and last name initial
And are brutally honest about your struggles with mental illness, drugs, and alcohol, trying to start a career in politics might not be a good move. :D

Then again, the last three presidents have admitted to drug and/or alcohol abuse. Maybe I'm in the clear......nope, that little deal with psychosis would probably get me shot down.

6. I am optimistic.
Just as our last 3 have admitted substance abuse, I really-really-belive that our future presidents, maybe in another 10 years or so, will be just as open about their 'internet persona's'. It is a product of the modern technology.

7. Your posting history is exactly why I overlooked you for that $200K job in hospitality services.
Let that be a lesson to you.
