Anyone experienced with Chegg.com?
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 10:13 PM by rug
My daughter got her textbook list and is thinking of renting them from Chegg.com instead of buying them. It seems to have mixed reviews. Anyone dealt with them?

(And the author of the first Chuggo joke will promptly receive steroid Carrotop in the inbox.)

8. I know that looked insane
and I know I'm a little odd, but something strange happened there - when I clicked in this thread from my bookmark file, all that showed was my reply - like it was an OP. Then when I replied to it, it went to the top of the lounge page and the whole thing was all there. I made the second reply and then went back to my bookmarks, clicked on it and it showed my reply from the other day as the OP, and my two replies today as reply #1 and 2. None of the rest of the thread was there - your OP or the other reply from the other day. Weird!

2. I rented a book from them and it was no problem at all
Everything went smoothly and from what I gather there's a tree in Guatemala with my name on it.

6. I haven't used them, but I did rent one from Bookrenter.com this semester
This sociology book is $140 new (at the college bookstore, $100 at Amazon.com), and the used ones were running almost $80. I rented mine for a semester for $47 plus shipping. It came quickly and in good condition, so I'm very happy. I would use them again.

12. Has she checked Amazon?
I've gotten books way cheap there, and eBay and Half.com too. I have also used iChapters.com, which provides electronic copies of textbooks. But those probably work best if you are a distance ed student like I am.

11. Yes, I have to return by December 17 but I also will have the option to buy it
From their website:

"If your book is not postmarked by the end of your rental period, you will be charged 20% of the book's list price and your rental will be extended by 14 days. If your book has not been returned by the end of this 14 day extension, you will be charged a Book Never Returned fee, which is used to cover the cost of replacing the book. This fee is equal to 140% of the book's list price minus your rental costs and the cost of the 14 day extension, plus a $10.00 service fee. Once you are charged, you opt out of the rental agreement and the book becomes your property.

To avoid being charged for the book, you can either extend your rental or convert it to a purchase."
