District 9
There will be little in the way of spoilers here. I'll be careful. I had never heard of this movie before and my hubby wanted me to go see it with him, so I went. Had I actually heard about it ahead of time, I would have been convinced that A) I wouldn't like it and B) that there would be things in it that would trigger me and so I would never see it anyway. I'm glad I didn't know of it ahead of time. It is a film that should have been useless, gory summer crap. Instead, it is a good (though gory), nay, great movie. It's even an important movie.

I give it two thumbs up but would ask you to keep your young kids home.

2. It's meaty
which is my term for something that is deep and thought provoking, as well being well made.

3. I hear you. Going in I'm able to see the ref's between work like Alien Nation, Arthur C's...
Childhood's End, and I do not view lightly the locale they chose to shoot it in as one of the more ultimate forms of institutionalized terrorism, profiling, and segregation of 'people', etc, 'people' more alien than us otherwise, if a catch the trailer's drift...

Who hasn't had a flat tire in a desolate sector of the universe with a broken down gas station full of sweaty humans x( I'm rooting for the inhabs of Dist 9

4. They dropped the ball
It could have been everything people think it's supposed to be. It wasn't.

Largely a mindless, twitchy, mechwarrior sci-fi shooter.

Extraordinarily disappointing film.
