Roadrunner Turbo
Does anyone subscribe to this service? If so, is it worth it?

I was calling TWC regarding maintenance on a cable box and they offered to upgrade Turbo for our Internet for $9.99 per month. A few reviews I've looked at like it; a few are more ambivalent.

I am hesitant because: 1) It's TWC ; 2) Your download speeds are often more dependent on the server you're downloading from as opposed to your own connection.

Any insight is appreciated.

1. What do you need the extra download speed for?
Pronturbo?

2. It's only worth it if you do a lot of simultaneous downloads.
Most Internet sites don't support session speeds of over 100 kBps (800k bits per second). Most people don't need even T-1 speed, and most won't notice "upgrades" beyond it.

What sort of things do you do simultaneously, and at what speeds?

3. typically
we have people on 2 comps at once. Someone usually just doing general Web surfing, and then streaming audio or video (sports mostly) on another one.

4. That doesn't sound like a huge need for speed.
How fast is your current connection?

5. it's just the standard Roadrunner package
however much that is. Downloading a video file, I probably avg. anywhere from 100-200k per sec depending on the server and the time of day.

6. Can't really say, then, not knowing your current connection speed...
...and what upgrade you're considering.

8. Ah!
That's easy--you probably don't come anywhere close to saturating your current connection, and would not notice any improvement with the Turbo package.

Your 100-200 kbps, or kBps, is less than 1.5 Mbps download. Seven megs is plenty for almost anyone, and your household's use seems to be casual.
