Inspecter Lewis on PBS Mystery
Did anyone happen to watch Mystery last night? I fell asleep 10 minutes short of the ending and have been going nuts all day wondering who shot the author and strangled the girl. My money is on the wife/ex GF of Lewis.

Was I close?

Please help me. I can't sit at my desk not working for a second day.

Signed,

Confused Anglophile

2. Sure, last night was the first episode
What is hysterical is how subtley Lewis is turning into Morse. Classical music, he drinks while his sgt has to drink OJ. I am waiting for him to start doing crosswords.

5. Neat.
Every episode had a different message in the music. It was kinda fun trying to figure it out. :)

6. I'm sorry, I thought you were kidding
I never knew they did that, but never having been a boy scout or a telegraph operator I really didn't know this. I will see what I can catch next Sunday.

So...what kind of stuff do they say? Spy vs Spy? Little Orphan Annie says drink your Ovaltine?

7. Sometimes the name of the killer, sometimes another character's name.
I'd watched quite a few episodes before I found out about it...of course, then I wanted to watch them again to try to figure it out. :)

17. You're right in a way
Lewis was always forced to be the driver and settle for soft drinks when Morse was in charge.

Now Lewis is an Inspector, HE is the boss. Damn right that it's Hathaway's turn to pay his dues now!

The dynamic between the two is interesting. The character of Lewis hasn't really changed. They still don't pretend he is a great intellectual - that is where Hathaway comes in.

The crew who make Lewis are essentially the old Morse team. It must have been quite emotional at first to film this spin-off series with no John Thaw. Especially the pilot episode, which has many nods to the much-missed grumpy old Inspector: Morse's old crossword, an MKII Jaguar making frequent appearances, characters asking "How is Morse?".

Lewis is a quality show. Am looking forward to the new episodes currently being filmed.

10. God, I loved Morse and Lewis.
And was so sad when John Thaw died.

Anyway - I didn't see it last night - didn't know it was on - but I'll try to catch it next time! Thanks!

12. I'll bet we'd never fight about what channel to have on
Your tastes in TV are a mirror of my own. Do you like TCM? I'm into the stuff from the 4os right now (and 30s if its Barbara Stanwyck), although so far I'm avoiding Westerns. I'm still nursing a profound distaste for John Wayne and the genre he infected, although when I was a kid I liked Westerns above all else. I even liked John Wayne. But one grows up.

The Holmes Poirot night is my favorite night of the week.

14. Oh yeah, I get my Nick & Nora Charles and Bogart/Dark Passage fix off TCM
I do like period-stuff and B&W noir, some new stuff but mostly vintage :bounce:

13. Well, good guess, but the curly-haired student athlete with the bad knee did it.
One of the ex-con/author's hacker scams skimmed money from a company the student's father worked at in an accounting capacity if I remember correctly.

The student's father committed suicide over the money going missing and the disgrace of it.

The student had planned with the brunette of the group (the first victim) to lure the ex-con/author there in order to kill him in revenge.

At the last minute, though, she found she actually like the ex/con author and backed off killing him, because he "was kind of cute."

The curly-haired student freaked out when she said the ex-con/author, the man he felt was responsible for his father's death, "was kinda cute."

Cancel Christmas for her - he killed her, and then carried out the plan to kill the author.

16. They are currently filming a new series
Heard Kevin Whately being interviewed on Test Match Special a few weeks ago.

Seems a very nice guy. Modest with it. Kept mentioning how much everybody missed John Thaw and how Thaw was a vastly superior actor than him.

Looking forward to more episodes of 'Lewis'.
