The Department of Health and Human Services in Colorado bites..
I have to go in once a year to get re certified for my food stamps and Medicaid savings. (which the state pays my premium every month instead of having it taken out of my SS check)

Usually when I do this, it's relatively painless. I am in and out within 40 minutes and within a few days I get my letters saying I was approved.

Not this year however..when I got to the office not only was the new applicants waiting room packed, the waiting room I have to go to is packed also! I had to wait for an hour and ten minutes before they got to me and took my paperwork. But I got it done..finally!

Then I get home....the only letter I got was that my medicaid savings application was denied. My food stamp card didn't get re-charged with my monthly allotment. I called the office to see what was up and they said they are BACKLOGGED for 30-60 days because so many new applicants are applying. So for as long as 2 months I will be out approx 100.00 in cash and 145.00 in food stamps per month.

I got my food banks to go to and this really cool soup kitchen that I go to once a week and I can eat with my Grandparents every now and then. If I was living by myself in a town with no family and friends,I would have been screwed......more so...

If they are so backlogged, shouldn't they send a reminder letter to get re-certified with more time for processing?
