Photo from Ann Arbor, MI: "Quad Burger" (4 patties, cheese, grilled onions, egg, mushrooms)

Photograph from JSmith Photo on Flickr

This burger from Blimpy Burger in Ann Arbor, Michigan, looks intense, probably because it contains four patties topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, egg, and mushrooms. I'll take the photographer Jeffrey Smith's word for it: "Mmm."

4. I really don't understand the appeal of this kind of "eating".
Even when I did eat meat, I went to Fuddruckers all of twice (I'm using it as an example here of "overloading the plate".) Too much food and when was the last time anyone successfully reheated a leftover burger where it tasted just as good fresh?

All damn day. Grilled onions, mushrooms, and an egg!? You people that wouldn't eat it are fucking insane!

20. Oh, not just all day
You'd be eating it all night, and probably into the next morning.

My digestive system has "matured" in the last 10 years, and I can't eat hamburgers anymore. But I think I would have given this hand-held heart attack a pass.

8. YES! I remember eating at Blimpy Burger back in the mid-1980s
when I was visiting my brother, who was a student at Michigan at the time. The burgers were a great decadent culinary experience, but I don't recall anything quite like that monstrosity being on the menu!

commonplace to put eggs on burgers? I missed that, somehow.

And it strikes me as utterly revolting......................

12. Sometimes called a "Loco Moco"...

Loco moco, Hawaii's well-known food, at Nico's Restuarant at Pier 38 in Honolulu: two fried eggs over two exquisite hamburger patties, two scoops rice, gravy, macaroni salad and boiled soba noodles (with cinnamon and nutmeg).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loco_Moco

A very good local Hawaiian restaurant, Ohana Grill, has the Loco Moco on their menu.

32. I don't remember if I sent you the link to Ohana Grill the last time...
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 02:05 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...but it is one of the good restaurants I referred to, and while it is not "McDonald's $1 Menu" cheap, it's pretty affordable. The food is excellent and the portions are a fair value for the price. I used to live a mile and a half from there, two years ago. Haven't been back since I moved but the Kalua Pork is the star of their menu (even though they DO offer a Loco Moco)...

35. Cafe San Jose @ Hamilton & Meridian is a KILLER, healthy breakfast & lunch place
No dinner, just breakfast & lunch. I know the owner. She's very health-conscious, despite the presence of bacon & eggs on the menu...the food is NOT greasy (that's how she established her initial reputation)...you can get fresh fruit in place of hash browns or breakfast potatoes, egg whites, etc etc etc...she is a stickler for hormone-free meats and such.

http://www.jatbar.com/reviews/San_Jose/Cafe_San_Jose.asp

What you should do, though, is go to the main "Jatbar" ("Jason & Terry's Bay Area Review") Web Site:

http://www.jatbar.com/reviews/San_Jose/Cafe_San_Jose.asp

They have over 1000 reviews...with photos...of restaurants of every kind from San Francisco to San Jose. You can sort by type of food, location, or name of restaurant.

These guys have "day jobs" at Google and are VERY price / value conscious (you'll see $$$ indicators in the reviews). While they have gone to ridiculously expensive places like Birk's Steak House in Santa Clara, the majority of reviews are for delis, burger joints, Indian food, Mexican food, Chinese food, etc...

Doesn't look half bad actually. Have never tried egg on a burger but then I'm always on the lookout for new taste combinations in a fried-snickers sorta way.

You'll either need to have your stomach pumped or be taken directly to the emergency room for a triple bypass.

23. Yeah, them fuckin mushrooms will kill you.....
Funny thing is - I have had at least 2 heart attacks, have a hereditary cholesterol problem as well as diabetes. My cardiologist has prescribed a diet for me very high in meat and nearly no carbs, similar to the South Beach or Pritikin diet. I have been on it for about 2 months, have a lot more energy and lost weight.

Worst thing on that burger for me is the roll.

28. Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burgers!
Ann Arbor institution since 1953, featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The burger patties are small; they don't even sell one with less than two (which has less meat than a standard 1/4 pounder).

They donate food to my pledge drives, our volunteers and staff love Blimpy Burger! And their onion rings are great (they have fried broccoli and zucchini too).

However, I eat my burgers with ketchup only so I will forego the eggs and fungus.
