Would you keep all pornography
away from your teenagers (or would if you had teenagers)? Why or why not?

1. All.... No
I would hope that if I did have children, there would be some serious talks about human sexuality before porn was an issue and that they would be able to make sensible choices when that time did come.

2. I wouldn't ENCOURAGE them to go watch porn. That would be creepy...
...but I wouldn't go crazy abolut blocking the internet or anything. Kids are curious and there's very little doubt that they'll look for it. It's only natural.

3. I wouldn't block the internet but I would block the cable TV
Only because those movies are like $10-$12 a pop.

7. I've seen what they have on Cable TV (although not Cinemax but Showtime and HBO)
One weekend I feel asleep on my sofa and woke up to one of those bad movies. They aren't half as bad as what you can pay for. Well they are badly acted and the sex scenes have about as much sex appeal as scrubbing floors. They're just stupid movies.

I watched for about 10 minutes and turned it off.

4. Answer my own question
I think I wouldn't forbid it. I might talk about it and what it repesents etc, but there really is no need to make it even more enticing by making it forbidden fruit.

I wouldn't encourage them to see porn, but healthy teens will find a way weather you know about it or not.

11. If I ever had children
they would have learned about my collection of French comics (translated), including the first few years of Heavy Metal. And then there are the true adult comics, like "Doll", "Omaha the Cat Dancer", and "Genus". Not to mention any books I am likely to get (before my girlfriend arrives) on the subject of Tantra. By the time they were teens, they would have been long-"exposed" to my lithos of Olivia paintings, too :D

They'd go into the world knowing that sex is a sensual thing, not dirty, unless you insist on watching American porn or hentai. And they'd be able to hold they own with the fundies that cannot comprehend a difference between any of it

12. Depending on their age,
I know full well the curiosity of teens since my 2 kids are young adults (23 & 19) and 2 step kids (18 & 15) and I'll tell you it really does depend on their ages.

One thing I would do however is to block the internet sites and those cable channels where it's more than just erotica and soft porn being shown. I personally find alot of that is not what I would hope our kids feel is what sex and love making is all about.

But by the same token, I want them to understand that the human body/ spirit of the person to whom you are being intimate with is something to be respected and admired and not just an object.

I guess time will tell how successful we've been.

after that, he's augments his needs with his own resources and without my knowledge.

14. I would be concerned if my teenager was viewing abusive or degrading porn.
That would be a topic for discussion. Otherwise I would look the other way unless I found a good segue to discussion. I loved my porn as a teenager

I had a talk with him concerning how I felt much of it is degrading to women and thus he shouldn't be looking at it.

I remember when I was young. I was so curious and such that I just don't see high minded concepts like degrading being much of a hinderance to me aquiring some porn.

16. How are you going to keep porn away from teenagers?
Teenagers can find porn if they want it. Content blockers and blocking out cable channels isnt going to stop a horny teenager.

19. probably not

It seems to paint a skewed picture of sexuality, or just viewing a certain kind of porn.

I couldn't believe my ears,
but this guy who sent a voice message to this podcast really did do what men do in porn to a real female and got kicked where it hurts.

http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=77146 (Episode 15)

They are going to look at it anyway, so you might offer them alternatives like good books on sex.

I don't think its possible. But some of the porn today is pretty harsh. Not like the old school porn like Johnny Holmes that we had:)...............

I wouldn't come on them for it unless they were leaving in the open. Masturbation is healthy but there is a time and place.

Advice to parents: after your kid becomes a teenager, always knock first!

26. It's not easy
it's not about porn, just nudity in the movies.
I have two teenage sons (13&15). We mostly see pg-13 movies, occasionally we see an R movies (Pan's labyrinth) but only if I see it first and it was acceptable to me.
But now my older son wants to see district 9 and I have no idea if it has nudity or too much violence and then I think, well crap he's gonna see boobies at some point, why am I babying him?

as far as porn goes, If I found the boys with porn, I'm sure I'd talk to them about it and let them know my feelings. but unless it was hardcore, I doubt i'd take it away or prevent them from seeing it. of course, my head is reeling about nudity in mainstream movies, so who's to say what my reaction would really be.

I was surprised that you can click on parentelguide even if it's grey.

In the Hammer they missed last shot.

Four stars, Hench was great. I'm going to watch The Hammer again this weekend and listen to the commentary. Had no idea about the sunbathing gay guys in the last shot, that is hilarious.

30. No nudity, pretty intense violence of the gross medical stuff nature.
I don't think there's even really a major female character in it. Certainly no sex or nudity.

If your son was OK with Lord of the Rings, he can probably handle District 9. It has about the same level of violence/gross splatter as Aliens.

27. Depends on what you mean by "pornography".
A lot of prudes out there would consider sex scenes on TV and movies as pornography. Some people consider passages from books like "Catcher In The Rye" as pornographic.

Personally, I'm not sure pornography is necessarily detrimental to our views of sexuality. But, you mileage may vary.
