1. I believe you need an HD Tivo to get HD on your Tivo and TV

2. DVRs (which TIVO is one particular brand) need to be of the HD variety
in order to record HD programs. Otherwise you will be limited to the stanard definition programming, in terms of what you can record and watch on your TIVO.

4. TIVO is one of those necessary things
I've had it since 2001.

Once I didn't have cable for a month and I did okay, but when my TIVO died (right after) I didn't last 48 hours without it.

6. yup, if I want to see that HD picture while using TIVO I'm going to need TIVO HD
can't complain about my Series 2 though. I bought it in 2003 for $99.

only problem is that when i'm in meetings and i miss something someone has said, i instinctively reach for the Tivo remote to hit the "replay" button. :banghead:

7. Check Craigs List. Tivo HDs can't be used with satellite so when people switch from cable, they

often sell them on. That's how we got ours. The guy had just bought it but was moving somewhere that only allowed satellite. So he sold it to us AND he had prepaid for a year (non refundable) so we got the Tivo and 11 months of service for a song. I sort of felt bad for him. But he lived right on the Gold Coast, so he wasn't exactly hurting for money.
