5. Many many years ago
I worked for GTE. The story at the time was that when you start working there you get a big can full of marbles. Every time you screw up they take one out of the can. When you finally lose all your marbles, they make you a supervisor.

And an article of faith amongst underlings.

Eventually, many of said underlings become Bosses, and that means...
