Paypal experience?
Hope someone can help calm me down, here. I'm part-owner of a very small business. We just recently got our website up, but it's been a bit of a dry spell. So we were thrilled to get an order. I went online to one of our usual suppliers and placed an order, paying for it with Paypal. AFTER the order went through the supplier gave the usual 'thanks for your order' screen, then added that they are closed for vacation until the 28th and would ship our order at that time. That won't work, seeing as how I'm supposed to deliver the finished product on the 28th. I contacted paypal and they indicate that only the vendor can cancel the payment.

So, I'll spend the weekend trying to collect early from a couple of people we did small jobs for, in order to go elsewhere to get the supplies I need in order to complete this new order (which we really need!). Has anyone had this kind of experience, and how did you handle it? And no, we won't be going back to the skanky original supplier.

1. How did you pay?
Was it a credit card using PP or was it PP tied into your checking acct?

4. Call your bank and also dispute the charges
State that you ordered the product expecting rapid delivery, but you found out that he's closed until the 28th, and that is unacceptable for you.

The bank will reverse the charges - it'll take 2-3 business days though.

11. It wasn't a credit card payment
It's not easy getting a refund once you send money from your checking acct.

has to initiate the refund.

3. Here.. you can dispute the payment saying that you are not getting your product
on time.

There's the Resolution Center...

That'll force the supplier to lose his payment until he resolves it quickly. Paypal will hold the money, not the supplier. Neither money are yours or his until the resolution is over. Then you will get paid when there's an agreement to release the money back to you.

Then you can order from another supplier and get the matter resolved.

10. Ain't gonna work
If you file a dispute, the seller has a time frame to respond to the dispute. He has 10 days.

6. You could also try contacting the supplier about shipping sooner.
Try to dig up a cell number or the person's name and try looking up a home number -- there should be SOME way to get in contact with them before the 28th. E-mail, call their main number and leave a voicemail, etc.

They probably don't want to lose your order either, and might rise to the occasion, especially if you've been a customer previously.

Worth a shot. :/

7. Yeah, I already left voicemail and sent email.
They're not responding to anything until the 31st. Cruddy way to do business, yeah? And, yes, last year we did a lot of business with them.

12. You need to step back.
You don't know what this person's business is (and neither do I), but there are industries out there that do a lot of business in "I'm sorry but it's fucking" August. I work in the construction industry, and there's a shitload of activity in "I'm sorry but it's fucking" August - the last month before school starts. It's the busiest time of the year some years, this year included.

Don't be a dick.

14. yeah i resent being told i can never take a vacation EVER, that i am a slave forever
apparently if you own a business, you are not allowed to take a couple weeks off EVER according to DU, you are supposed to be a slave forever

that is more than wrong, it is evil and, yes, it's un progressive

the OP screwed up and instead of acknowledging he/she screwed up, he is blaming the person who clearly posting that their business was done for the last two weeks of august and that they'd be offline for that time

if you can't take two weeks off in august during a recession when are you ever? apparently the vote here is never

that is just wrong and every real progressive would be embarrassed by you

the OP and those who agree that this is OK should be ashamed

sorry, but if you're honest w. yourself and sleep on it, one day you'll realize that blaming the other guy for not being your bitch is not the way to go

16. FOR THE RECORD
My objection was to this: First, their website accepted my money. THEN they advised that they were closed until the 28th. Had they been up front about being closed there would have been no problem.

there is no law that i am your slave on a string and must always be accessible to you by email/cell phone even on my freaking vacation, that's just wrong

i wish for the OP (and all who agree w. this) what they wish for me -- no free time forever, that they must always be on call forever

and don't forget this is probably about all of $50 or so of equipment that won't be shipped until after aug 31 -- at least when my publisher screws with me, they are talking "real" money (altho still not enough to make me a slave forever)

and THEN informs you they are going to be closed. Which a thorough reading of the OP would have told you.

20. This is why I never use paypal tied to a checking account.
You have so much power and flexibility with a credit card, and with your cash, well, it's just gone. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

22. in the future, consider a Credit card payment
I know PP is pushing using bank accounts, but my experience is that the other is much more user friendly for me. As long as you make an iron rule of paying the full balance every statement, credit is a handy tool.
