Living in Venezuela on very little money, and none of it now in dollars, makes it very difficult to contribute, but I do want very much to support DU. So, if you still have one.... my thanks.

I am 36 and I was an academic before, working on medieval history. Then cancer came and everything changed and I could no longer work (I am considered permanently disabled because of the nature of my disease). I do need a star if this is at all possible. I hope to be able to give stars to others in the future, when, hopefully, things improve for us. Thank you for posting this thread!

I just wanted to say that I had the worse day today - and then this evening a DU'er put a smile on my face.
We had a huge thunder storm here in Houston this evening starting around 6pm when the temp was still in the high 90's.
Rolling thunder, unbelievable lighting, and buckets of rain.
I had a pot of water on the stove to boil water for spaghetti when the ELECTRIC WENT OUT.
No dinner here tonight and no air conditioning and no computer access ;(
The electricity came back on eight minutes to Midnight.
DU was the first place I came to when my computer booted up,
and upon finding out that an anonymous person donated a star to me I was very surprised and very touched by the kindness.

I didn't ask for one and didn't even know that this thread was here to ask.

I am sure I will never know who gave me my star,
but I want to say to that kind person (if they happen to be here): THANK YOU VERY MUCH. WHO EVER YOU ARE YOU MADE MY DAY!
