Do people die and then be not-dead? Like, famous people.
I found a thread somewhere about this -- people who are famous and get pronounced dead but people, often many people, remember that they had already died a long time ago.

It just kinda willie-nillied me out and I thought it would be fun to see it discussed here. My own personal for sure memory (this thing had been bugging me for years already) was:

I remember hearing Peter Tork of the Monkees died of some kinda cancer way back in 1995 or so.
Around the same time I distinctly heard that Stephen Hawking had died.
Somewhere in ancient history I also hear Randy Newman was dead.

These people are supposed to be still alive today.

Okay, your turn . . .

1. This actually happened to a friend of mine
. The story I heard, supposedly true, is that sometime in the 70's he and the band he was in( or some of them anyway) were doing LOTS of drugs ; nasty ones too, not just smoking a lot of weed...Supposedly he OD'd and was taken to the hospital and showed no signs of life. So they pronounced him dead and put the toe-tag on him and put his lifeless body on a gurney in the hallway. A young intern was walking by and was idly looking at the names on the toe tags, and when he saw my friend's name , he recognized it ( they were a very famous band) and called out "hey , this is.... from the ..." So the intern ( or somebody) tried one more time to resuscitate him, just because of who he was, and he wasn't dead after all ,still alive and kickin'; he'll be 66 this December. I don't know this story for an absolute fact, but a mutual friend, who generally knows stuff like this, told me about it.

also, trying to remember if I knew this story. Sounds vaguely familiar....more details? if you know em? ( and if, like me,you have absolutely nothing better to do at the moment).

7. Yeah, and the combined ages of the Stones is about 263!
Actually you may be thinking of the "falling out of a coconut tree" incident in 2006 while Keith was in Fiji.

They say the only two things to survive a nuclear war would be cockroaches and Keith Richards. :)

6. Snort! And through modern physics, engineering, microchip technology, and solar power
plus a few other things...thus we are still graced with the presence of the great Keith Richards. (hee hee).

10. I remember watching PTI on ESPN and they seemed to
announce the demise of Debbie Harry. I remember Tony Kornheiser saying that it made him feel old that she had passed. Pretty sure she is still alive.

13. definitely still alive-- a version of Blondie was here recently
I don't know which, if any original members were in it besides her...Does freak me out that all the Ramones except the drummers, are dead, and that I saw Ramones artifacts and memorabilia on ANTIQUES Roadshow.... Antiques! And realizing Ray Manzarek of The Doors is 70 makes me feel REAL old...
