whats the best dog or cat name you ever heard?
when I was a kid there was this big white sheep dog named "cloud" in the neighborhood

another neighbor had a cat named "DC", later I learned it stood for dumb cat, so named because he would sleep out in the open in the rain.

36. Had a neighbor as a kid with a dog named Kittie.
The name over the doghouse said Kit (as in Carson), but the neighbors son called it Kittie so long that it wouldn't answer to anything else. When the kid grew up and moved out, it was just his dad and dog left behind. The neighborhood knew them as Grumpy & Kittie :)

It was very funny watching him walk out and yell "Here Kittie!" and see a big old Newfoundland come running.

And someone I know named their small, mixed-breed pooch Rat Dog.

49. When he was a kid, my nephew had a dog named Jack.
Jack died when my nephew was about 9, and was devastated. My brother & his wife were hesitant about getting another dog because my nephew always talked about how he missed Jack.

After about a year, my brother had the opportunity to get a puppy from one of his friends and one day the family went to visit them to pick the puppy up. My nephew was introduced to the dog & allowed to be with him for a few minutes. Then my brother went up to my nephew and asked what he thought of the puppy & if he thought he would be a good dog. My nephew said, "Well, there's a chance that he'll be as good as Jack was."

So, that's what they named him - Chance.

70. My little brothers' rat terrier pup CHOSE his own name. No matter what anybody called him,
Edited on Sat Aug-22-09 11:19 PM by Petrushka
he wouldn't respond. He'd ignore them even if he was being offered a treat. Then,
one day, while the opera "Figaro" was playing on the radio, the pup would approach the radio,
whine and howl. After that, all anybody had to do was sing or call "Figaro, Figaro" and he'd be
right there, wagging his tail.

"...and Figaro was his name-oh!"

==================================================================
Also: My daughter had a German Shepherd she named "Sylvester" and
a black cat she named "Widdershins".

Edited to add:
My granddaughter recently purchased two goldfish and named them
"Misery" and "Company".

72. I named my first Ferret Ferret
Till my family stuck their noses into the matter.

Ive always wanted a cat named monkey, a dog named kitty, a ferret named Dog, and a monkey named ferret. Preferably all at once. And the monkey should be trained to clean litter boxes.

76. A coworker adopted one of my cat Tisha's kittens
and named it "Kalamazoo." Tisha was a Persian cat with papers which were registered in the name of "Nartisha Louise." I thought it was the weirdest thing I'd ever heard, but then found out that breeders often give the offspring of champions weird names.

108. Cain.
Cain was a little runt cocker spaniel that belonged to my BF when he moved in with me.

Cain was about six months old, when his momma had another litter, of two. Cain killed one of the pups.

Therefore, he was Cain because he slew his brother.

<rimshot>

The sister that survived was Sera, short for Seraphim. Their momma was Angel.

110. The One and Only Original Vanilla Caramel Ice Cream Cat
When he was curled up he looked like a bowl of vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce drizzled over the top. Really cool cat.

My sister had a cat she named Screaming Yellow Zonkers. He was slightly yellowish, screamed a lot and was totally insane, so it fit him perfectly.
