I know that business is business but it really creeps me out.

It's not like seeing a dead star in an old movie.

Sales, to me, seems too personal to be done by the dead.

1. I don't think he would have minded
And the residuals will go to his heirs (his family, presumably). But it IS kinda weird.

I'm surprised the advertisers still want to use him as their pitchman, because of the distraction factor. When you see his commercials now, do you think about how great superglue is, or do you just think "too bad Billy died"?

6. My 5YO pointed to the TV during a Billy Mays commercial
and shouted "Hey! He's dead!"

Kid's right on toppa things.

I did see an Orange-Glo commercial that had been altered--just showed his feet. Female voice narrating. I think that was weirder than leaving the commercial intact.

9. I saw something like that.
Not sure if it was Orange-Glo.

But there was a woman's voice instead.

I think that's even creepier than just playing the Billy Mays version.

8. I hear you and it is the creepy underbelly of consumerism to use the death of...
a cocaine using midway pitch man in a cynical triangulation between remembrance, product, and sympathetic retail sales which can be some of the more profitable kinds of business http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/07/billy-mays-autopsy-cocain_n_254339.html

10. Something about OxiClean they're not telling us?
Avoid contact with eyes. If ingested, immediately call your local poison control center. May cause zombieism.

11. What they're really saying...
is that Jesus has returned to Earth in the persona of Billy Mays.

In the Bible, Jesus was crucified, spent three days in Hell, rose again and went to sit at the right hand of the Father.

In America, Billy Mays died of heart disease, spent three days off the air, rose again and went back to selling OxiClean.

The fundies say Jesus will bring with Him fire and damnation for all who don't believe in Him. This may still be the case, since the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, Bush and Cheney) are all still at large. But there's still time.

12. There's no one else to sell the crap.
Vince disappeared from TV after he got busted and there aren't any other possible successors.
