What do you want from life? Well you can't have that, but...
I'll take the foolproof plan and the airtight alibi. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fgjfi1DU1mQ

What do you want from life
To kidnap an heiress
or threaten her with a knife
What do you want from life
To get cable TV
and watch it every night

There you sit
a lump in your chair
Where do you sleep
and what do you wear
when you're sleeping

What do you want from life
An Indian guru
to show you the inner light
What do you want from life
a meaningless love affair
with a girl that you met tonight

How can you tell when you're doin' alright
Does your bank account swell
While you're dreaming at night
How do know when you're really in love
Do violins play when you're touching the one
That you're loving

What do you want from life
Someone to love
and somebody that you can trust
What do you want from life
To try and be happy
while you do the nasty things you must

Well, you can't have that, but if you're an American citizen you are entitled to:
a heated kidney shaped pool,
a microwave oven--don't watch the food cook,
a Dyna-Gym--I'll personally demonstrate it in the privacy of your own home,
a king-size Titanic unsinkable Molly Brown waterbed with polybendum,
a foolproof plan and an airtight alibi,
real simulated Indian jewelry,
a Gucci shoetree,
a year's supply of antibiotics,
a personally autographed picture of Randy Mantooth
and Bob Dylan's new unlisted phone number,
a beautifully restored 3rd Reich swizzle stick,
Rosemary's baby,
a dream date in kneepads with Paul Williams,
a new Matador, a new mastodon,
a Maverick, a Mustang, a Montego,
a Merc Montclair, a Mark IV, a meteor,
a Mercedes, an MG, or a Malibu,
a Mort Moriarty, a Maserati, a Mac truck,
a Mazda, a new Monza, or a moped,
a Winnebago--Hell, a herd of Winnebago's we're giving 'em away,
or how about a McCulloch chainsaw,
a Las Vegas wedding,
a Mexican divorce,
a solid gold Kama Sutra coffee pot,
or a baby's arm holding an apple?

3. I saw them perform that four different times in concert, back in the day...
...one of these days I'm going to have to go to a present-day Tubes show...for me, the cut-off point of the band was the double live album "What Do You Want From Live," because once Todd Rundgren got his hands on them, they weren't the same band any more.

To be fair, they spend so much money on stage productions supporting the first three albums that they lost their shirts and HAD to start chasing hits...such is the music biz.

4. Interesting how the Bay Area in mid Seventies produced

great bands like the Tubes, Yesterday & Today, Journey, etc, that turned commercial. As you say though, such is the music biz :(

7. VH-1's "Extended Cut" of "Journey: Behind The Music" is one of their best shows of all time
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 10:28 AM by Amerigo Vespucci
They state the obvious, which was the fact that Journey began as a clubhouse for Santana dropouts who wanted to indulge in long, trippy guitar-based jams. Trouble is, they weren't selling any records. Their management had demo tapes of Steve Perry, and the short version was basically "You ARE going to take this guy on. We're not ASKING you. We're TELLING you."

Once they tasted the cash that went with going commercial, they stopped complaining about going commercial.

5. I don't want much
I don't want much in this world
It's th' simple things I treasure
'Till I die I would get by on fame, riches and sensual pleasure

I don't ask much in this life
No special consideration
Just treat me like His Majesty
Of a friendly OPEC nation

Some people
Just don't know when to stop
Some people
Just won't quit until they reach the top

But I'm so easy going
I'd make my way through life
On love and understanding
From a rich and beautiful wife

Some people
Just never seem to get enough
Some people
Want salvation, paradise and all that stuff

But I'm so easy going
Don't even keep the score
All I want is plenty, but I will take more
If you ask me
I will take more
Say please
I will
Take more

"What Do Women Want?"
by Kim Addonizio

I want a red dress.
I want it flimsy and cheap,
I want it too tight, I want to wear it
until someone tears it off me.
I want it sleeveless and backless,
this dress, so no one has to guess
what's underneath. I want to walk down
the street past Thrifty's and the hardware store
with all those keys glittering in the window,
past Mr. and Mrs. Wong selling day-old
donuts in their café, past the Guerra brothers
slinging pigs from the truck and onto the dolly,
hoisting the slick snouts over their shoulders.
I want to walk like I'm the only
woman on earth and I can have my pick.
I want that red dress bad.
I want it to confirm
your worst fears about me,
to show you how little I care about you
or anything except what
I want. When I find it, I'll pull that garment
from its hanger like I'm choosing a body
to carry me into this world, through
the birth-cries and the love-cries too,
and I'll wear it like bones, like skin,
it'll be the goddamned
dress they bury me in.
