Hungry anyone?

Anyone ever try any of these things?


Black pudding- (sausage made of congealed blood)
Sweetbread- (stomach sweetbread is pancreas and throat sweetbread is thymus gland)
Lutefisk- (whitefish that’s been dried and treated with lye)
Balut- (duck or chicken eggs with almost-developed embryos inside)
Chitterlings- (pig intestines that are stewed or fried)
Haggis- (sheep organs mixed with grains, spices, and soup stock)
Dormouse Stew- (this hearty soup consists of dormice or sometimes rats)
Vegemite- (extracted from yeast and is used in the way we use peanut butter)
Ti?t Canh- (duck blood and innards, chopped nuts, and herbs mixed together and cooled so that it congeals)
Head Cheese- Head cheese is a more appetizing way of saying “meat jelly,” which is various animal (usually a cow or pig) head bits set in gelatin with herbs and spices. In Europe, it’s used as sandwich filling.

No intention of trying any of the others.

Ugh. But my sister and father love it.

Apparently it is very high in B vitamins, but I just couldn't develop a taste for it.

bacon or sausage
fried tomatoes
fried bread

haggis is wonderful served with mashed potatoes and turnips.

I was born and raised in Scotland. I still love those aforementioned foods.

some of the others were a one time only, some I'll eat again.

And you left out pickled sparrow, a delicacy in southern Italy.

Black pudding just tasted like metal. The head cheese was part of a Mexican dish.

I think they would have done better with meat jello

If you eat ham and eggs for breakfast, you can eat anything. For the record that's a pig's backside and chicken ova.

Haggis is really good. Spicy and mealy. Great for any meal really.

Especially good with the traditional potato and turnip mash.

Scotland is not prime farm land. People had to make do with what was available -- hardy animals and hardier grains.

In his dictionary Samuel Johnson defined oats as a grain that the English fed to their horses and Scots to their men. A Scot slammed dunked with, "That's why England is proud of its horses and Scotland, its men."

...consider smoking pole for a bag of White Castles right now.

It should be a law that no one should be more than 30 minutes away from a White Castle restaurant. The frozen crap in the grocery stores do not do them justice.

of your list about the only one I might be able to choke down is head cheese, and choke is probably accurate

Black pudding- in the UK, for breakfast. It was good, but then I was told what it was and I couldn't eat any more.
Sweetbread-this is quite good, done properly.
Lutefisk- A bite. It did not agree with me.
Balut- No, although a store nearby me sells it.....the eggs are marked with a 'B' and then wither a 'D' for duck, or 'C' for chicken.
Chitterlings- These can be excellent, but you MUST have a cook who knows what they are doing.
Haggis- Had this one Christmas Eve in Preston Pans. Canned is disgusting, but good if done correctly.
Dormouse Stew- No.
Vegemite- Yes. Vaguely metal-tasting, not appetizing.
Ti?t Canh- Sound like old-fashioned mince. I'd try it.
Head Cheese- Had it on wonderbread. Never again.
