Poll question: Do you talk on the phone while driving?
After seeing that shocking PSA on Youtube showing the young women texting and then getting in a graphic crash, that got me to wondering... how many of use talk on the phone while driving? I'm a stickler about it and have disappointed people because I won't answer my phone while driving. And it's against the law in California to use a hand-held cell phone while driving - yet every day I see people holding their phone to their ear while they are driving, knowing full well they can get a ticket if a cop sees them. So honestly what do you do?

1. I haven't gotten a hands-free thingy yet...
So, no, I don't talk on the phone while driving.

Even before the law changed, I didn't feel comfortable doing it. It's too damned distracting.

:hi:

3. I have a Bluetooth earpiece, but I still don't.
And 80% of folks I see driving while holding a phone up to their heads drive like fucking idiots.

5. Who the hell is everyone talking to?
And how did anyone ever survive before they could be in constant contact with every human on the surface of the earth??

6. I hate to talk on the phone
and I don't drive, so I do not talk on the phone while driving.

I don't know what is so important that it has to be discussed while driving.

But then I have a lot of complaints about drivers--I am a very nervous passenger, and most drivers scare me.

11. Two things I don't enjoy, driving and talking on the phone.
I have never combined the two and I hope I never do.

12. I almost got run down in a crosswalk by someone yakking on a cellphone
and driving a Navigator. I had a walk signal and while she had a green, she was making a left.

13. That kind of thing pisses me off.
I need to start carrying around large paint balls for situations just like that. I have actually gone back and dumped an entire smoothie on someone's car just because they stole a parking space I was waiting for.

14. Sometimes
Depends where I am, what I am driving and sometimes on who is calling.
I avoid it in traffic, and while driving stick. If I can safely cruise foor a minute and somkeone calls then yes. But I am also not one to talk on the phone fopr any length so the call might be only 15-30 seconds as well.

15. I used to... and felt guilty about it.
I gave up my cell phone to save $ so now I don't any more and I love my new-found freedom!

16. never
and I HATE HATE HATE bluetooth. I used to work for a call center, and I could tell exactly who was on a bluetooth and who was not.

I got into a very bad car accident in 2000 (a week before the law went into effect) because a woman in an Expedition behind me rear-ended me because she was too involved in her cellphone (also too involved in her phone call to call cops, and she left the scene of the accident). I still have recurring neck injuries from that accident.

Because she almost took my life, I will never talk on a phone while driving to protect the safety of others.

20. Yes - it's the only time I actually kinda like to use the phone.
Call me at any other time, and you're likely to be interrupting me in the middle of doing something else that's (probably) far more important and necessary. Something I need both hands for - like grabbing a puppy who's just about to slip through the backyard fence; typing; hell, even washing dishes. I'm likely to be annoyed and impatient. But when I'm driving, it's just "empty time" that may as well be filled by doing two things at once. I don't text while driving, though. Wouldn't even want to.

22. Wow! This is a very different thread than the one I posted.
I was criticized for being critical of a mother talking on the phone while driving her baby around.

I was told that I was silly for thinking it was dangerous.

23. No, but I will check to see who's calling
If it's from school or from one of my children/grandchildren, I'll pull over asap and call back. Otherwise, they can wait until I reach my destination, which is never more than 20 minutes.
