Really, a small black box with a strobe light, flashing.

Absolutely the worst ST prop ever used, including ST:TOS.

It was the episode where everyone had become addicted to some vr game.

And as they wrestled Wesley down, and put the game apparatus to his head, and he began to join all the others in some false euphoria, Data showed up to save them all, and he did it with a strobe light.

I love ST, and especially TNG, but that scene, well, it was just terrible. How could they let such a cheap, 70's era prop, be used like that, with no disguise, no high-tech makeover. Just Data, carrying a small black box which emitted a strobe light. The same strobe light we can buy today on ebay, or even before the episode was made.

Just noting it. ST:TNG is still the best series, except for Enterprise. Kidding, just kidding...

1. some illnesses can be cured with sugger watter.....
in a world where people live on a starship....who is to say that they don't need a strobe light to smack them out of some twisted addiction.

I remember seeing this episode when it first aired....It got under my skin like horror flicks did when I was a kid.

but if you need an explanation....It was a strobe light set to a particular frequency that would bring them out of there narcotic coma. they couldn't instantly program they're strobe lights with complex algorithms in the 70's, could they?

and BTW, Its a fucking show.....just enjoy the ride

2. I actually thought that was a pretty good episode
I remember how creepy the crew was acting as they kept playing that stupid game.

And I don't have a problem with Data using a cheapie strobe light, if that was the simplest thing he needed to solve the problem. I imagine crowbars in the 24th century look the same as they do today, too.
