15. Just take your 47 friends back into your VW and depart. Some of us are mourning today.

16. Not sure you got it.
Not sure I got your reply either.

Oedi got mine, I'm sure. I kicked it up. Can't recommend, though.

And I'm mourning, too. Check GD tomorrow for my threads about how Europe honors Ted Kennedy. :hi:

24. There's a huge debate about that in historical & allohistorical circles.
Certainly Kennedy was not the latent peacenik Oliver Stone alluded to in his JFK movie. Many critics point out that in the war LBJ only followed the linear logic of Kennedy's Vietnam policy. Others counter that LBJ really followed Kennedy's policy to it's linear extreme, while JFK's history was one of handling problems with much more finesse than Johnson ever showed, that he would have come up with a creative solution that would have been equally unpopular with Johnson's megawar, but a good deal less inflammatory to the nation. I personally wonder just how many "creative solutions" to Vietnam there might have really been--probably none. He would never have fully withdrawn US troops from South Vietnam--the conflict would have sullied his reputation as badly as it did to LBJ.

21. They are not dying but not winning elections, either.
Kennedys, The Next Generation.

Here in Maryland former lieutenant governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend lost her gubernatorial bid, and gave us the first Republican governor in a long time in a blue state. Fortunately, he lasted one term.

His lieutenant governor won't go away, though. Michael Steele, now chairman of the GOP.

Mark Shriver ran for a congressional seat, and lost in the primary to Chris Van Hollen, our very visible congressman.
