Does Julia Child's voice annoy the piss out of anybody else besides me?
To me, her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard. :argh:

3. Not as bad as Truman Capote
WTF were they thinking making him a Hut in the animated Star Wars movie? OUCH!

Actually, I suspect the Monty Python crew spent HOURS listening to her to perfect their voices - especially the guy who played Brian's mother. Can you hear Julia saying "He's not the messiah, he's just a VERY naughty boy"?

5. I grew up with Julia Child's sister's son
I got used to Dorothy's voice and she sounded just like Julia. She could have played a stunt double for Julia, they looked and sounded that much alike. Julia Child's voice was reassuring and even comforting to me.

7. That's an old style Hudson Valley artistocrat accent.
I don't know if she's actually from upstate NY, but I'll bet dollars against donuts her family (or at least her education) was from the northeast. It's a very upper crust, pre-WW2 Yankee accent. Once upon a time all the Dartmouth girls were taught to talk that way.

If it's any consolation to you, she's dead.

8. She was born and raised in California, but I agree with you...
she must come from some Eastern upper crusty family.
I think she went to Smith, which had quite a few of those accents back in the day.
Dartmouth GIRLS? When did they go co-ed?
Oh, god I'm old.

I love Julia Child entirely. Especially her voice.
