So I go to the Social Security office today
to get a replacement card. I lost mine in Hurricane Ivan five years ago, but never replaced it. I figure since I am looking for a job, someone might need to see a copy if I ever find one.

Anyway, I go in the office, and am greeted by a fully armed security guard. He tells me to turn off my cell phone before I can go in, and he gives me a number. Inside there is another armed security guard. I havent been into a social security office in a long time, but I dont remember there being all that security before. Is there a reason that social security offices are at some kind of risk, it isnt like they have any money in there?

2. I belive that's why. I had to go to the Social Security office here
in Seattle a couple of years ago, and while it wasn't as bad as the OP described, there was an armed guard at the door.

3. that must be it
I didnt think of that, because you are usually informed of that stuff in the mail. I assumed those people use the phones to talk to people about that stuff, not their local offices.
