Where were yoiur great-grandparents born?
I think it's a more interesting question than what your nationality is, at least in my case. A little easier to answer, too.

2 were born in southeastern Ohio
1 was born in French Canada (she was Native American)
1 was born in Ireland
2 were born in Poland
2 were born in Slovenia

27. one of my maternal great-grandmothers was born in SE AZ too!
They may have met. Probably not under friendly circumstances, though. There is a family story of her mother and some of the kids hiding in a canyon from Apaches, but the funnier story is of the same woman shooting through the front door at another "Apache" who was of course Anglo.

The daughter (my GGrandmother) went on to marry a man who settled in the area because "Indians" stole his horses. Those turned out to be the pale kind too.

Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 11:59 PM by denbot
They live near the Puerco River on the other side of the hills, then in the town of Morenci (Grammie). I went there a couple of years ago to look for some records. The locals still tell tails of their ancestor's interactions with mine..

We lost, but by god they paid a full measure for our lands.

All four of my grandparents came into the US through Ellis Island at the turn of the century. My generation is the first who, unfortunately, doesn't speak fluent Italian (except for choice swear words of course ) but also the first who, for the most part, went to college and grad school.

Dad's side : I believe all four were born in So. IL where I grew up. Grandma's family was one of the families to settle in Ewards/Wabash counties. My roots have been in that area for over 165 years.

Mom's side is a little trickier. I think Grandpa's dad was born in Van Wert, OH. His mom may have been, too. Grandma's mom was born in So. IL or IN (possibly Vincennes area), but I don't know about her dad. This particular Great-Grandmother was married three times, LOL! She was a feisty one - Irish, of course! :D

Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 01:03 PM by SoxFan
Sullivans, Donovans, Fitzgeralds, and Lennons.

Maternal grandfather in Cork City, maternal grandmother in nearby Middleton, paternal grandfather in Castletownbeare on the Beara Peninsula, and paternal grandmother in County Roscommon.

Have to assume that the great-grandparents were from the same neck of the woods.
