dewspite the "cliches" of the situationsa, etc, mentioned by reviewers, and I thought the 3 main actors were just great.

1. I thought it was excellent.
Rourke gave a great performance.

2. I loved it too
I'm no fan of Mickey Rourke, but I had to admit he did a great job. Tomei too. Great characters, too :)

3. As did I. SPOILER ALERT
My sister, a nurse told me that the move he did at the end; jumping from the rope onto his chest would have killed him so shortly after open heart surgery.

She said his chest would have opened up like a zipper...basically.

The screen goes dark right after he leaps from the rope so maybe the film does imply that he dies doing the only thing he knew he was good at. The rest of his life was pretty much a disaster on top of endless heartbreak and daily humiliation.

4. I confess to a little bias - I have the same zipper myself. Had the
bypass in '03.

Have yet to put it to the leaping test, and actually I think I'll pass.

I really identified with the character.
Funny thing, later that evening we saw "My Cousin Vinnie" - with Ms Tome, who was great in that as well.
