Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 02:50 PM by Drunken Irishman
Their presentation of a shoe salesman is appalling and down right derogatory.

How dare they!

1. Their presentation of the human race is degrading and offensive...
and that is why it's hilarious.

It is possible that there is a race of aliens watching from light years away. This is the only TV show they've seen and have by now decided that we must be exterminated for the good of the galaxy.

2. My post was more TIC...
I was hoping to bait people into thinking I was going to call it sexist with how they portray women.

But I guess I failed. :(

5. I think that was the point.
The show lampooned the dysfunctional families and paved the road for the dysfunctional sitcom. Like, maybe, "The Simpsons", and pretty much every thing on the UPN network. For example, compare "The Cosby Show" to "Married With Children". Sitcoms like that hold a fun house mirror up to society's face and exaggerate the flaws for comedic effect.

7. Plus, Al Bundy loved his kids way deep down
I found it hilarious that he sold shoes for a living in a mall,
while the wife stayed home and ate bonbons. The children didn't
help out in any way and they lived in a two story house.

That was so over the top - making fun of sitcoms from the 50's.

8. The earlier seasons were stinging but sensational... then came Ted McGinley...
Steve Rhoade's era was the best.

9. That's true.
McGinley did play a stupid sap pretty well and he
wasn't too hard on the eyes. He got led around by
the nose and didn't even know it.

Like anything, I guess, it just gets broader with
time. I've been watching Seinfeld reruns when I get
home. I never watched it when it was new, and that
show got much broader in later seasons.

18. Every series does that...
Even the first two seasons of Married...With Children were far different than the rest of the series pre-D'Arcy.

They were very similar to Roseanne's earlier episodes but since Roseanne was doing so well, they broadened things just a bit and became a bit more extreme.

True fact: Roseanne was first set to play Peggy in Married...With Children.

Thankfully she didn't get the role. Not because I dislike Roseanne (I don't), but because Katy Segal is brilliant and Roseanne (the TV show) is one of my all-time favorites.

20. Hopefully to all of it.
Because I do love Roseanne. That TV series still stands up, especially now with all the economic hardships we're going through.

10. I wonder if the porn version will be better

Jeff Mullen, who writes and directs under the name Will Ryder, helmed the Brady spoof and has since directed a sequel, as well as parodies of Bewitched, The Cosby Show, and most recently, Married With Children. He spoke to NEWSWEEK's Joshua Alston.

...

Then we took one of the most dysfunctional families on television with Married With Children that just came out. And it turned out to be our most complete movie and definitely the funniest of all because that show is just so funny. It’s just line, line, zinger, line, line, zinger. So we had to write it accordingly.

12. I was just checking it out this morning!
Curiosity, nothing more!

The guy playing Al has the mannerisms down, if not the voice.

Peg has the hair right and the voice is close.

Bud is really only in it for one scene. Not a very effective portrayal.

Kelly is just a generic blonde pornstar.

It had a few decent gags (by porn standards) but overall it's not nearly as good as the Seinfeld one.

15. I found a trailer on spike.com

I think Al is a bit too young, but the original series ran for 10 years.
Maybe it could work

I have seen "Not The Cosbys" and Thomas Ward was really funny as Cliff

I couldn't stand those ugly people being ugly and getting laughs for their uglitude.

16. I have studied the series closely.
Nearly every episode, in fact. I think it is a brilliant satire of all that was good in family sitcoms that preceded it. They even jumped the shark in the traditional manner, by adding that horrid child. It hurt to watch sometimes, but when it was good, it was

(disclaimer: I have sold shoes. :( )

23. Oh, I see, I was supposed to think you were serious. Um, let's see.
The show was degrading to stupid blonds, pimply geeks, shoe salesmen, and women. And dogs. And Ted McGinty. But every show is degrading to Ted McGinty. Or maybe Ted McGinty is degrading to the show.

I should have read the other responses before posting my previous reply.

26. I disagree.
How many shoe salesmen do you know who scored four touchdowns in a single game?
Frankly, I think this lent great credibility to the profession of selling womens' shoes.
