Can anyone explain why I can't have numbers with different area codes on a cell phone account?
Preferably a technical reason rather than the runaround bullshit AT&T is giving me. kthxbai

1. It has to do with where you register the phone. After that, it doesn't matter.
You can probably do it over the Internet with a local provider in the area code you are interested in having.

3. I have 2 area codes on my account, too.
617 and 978 with Verizon.

They're for the same metro area, if that makes any difference.

5. We're seperated by two states (Wisconsin and Indiana)
They claim it has something to do with which market you're in, which would explain why you can have two.

Sprint.

One for my mom, one for my daughter, one for me.

We all live in different area codes. No one blinked when I requested the numbers. Standard operating procedure.

IOW, there is no technical explanation.
