Sometimes I feel like the lounge is kinda white...don't flame me, people, but it's true. I love R&B & old Motown.

none of those 4 were a huge commercial hit on the rock , as opposed to strictly-soul stations; so many people who also love Motown, Stax/Volt, various old R&B etc., may not have known those songs . Not everyone back then had access to great exclusively-soul stations like I was fortunate to have had growing up ( using that term loosely) in Chicago in the 60's ( WVON and for awhile, WGRT). And the rock stations there played lots of soul too. I'm actually embarrassed to have lost touch with a lot of more modern black music and artists. Most of the black music I listen to is 40 years old or more, whereas I've kept up at least a little more with modern white rock groups. I've tried to keep an open mind in regards to rap and hip hop ( and not saying that's all there is; but those certainly are dominant forces), but very little that I've heard speaks to me, and for all I know, maybe it's not supposed to(?). Any recommendations from DUers as to modern black artists worth checking out are more than welcome. India.Arie is one artist who comes to mind whose music I think is very good...

I'm old school too, for good reason I think. I was very much immersed in the black culture when I was a teen in the early 70's and on, so I was more exposed than most white people growing up.
