Lottery winner broke after spending $400,000 on cocaine, $730,000 on clothes & breast implants
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 11:23 AM by Elmore Furth
At the age of 16, Callie Rogers won a jackpot of $3.1 million and over 6 years blew through nearly all of it. By the age of 22 she had spent all but $32,000 on breast implants, cocaine, clothes, cars, and a few homes.

A case of peaking too early if I ever saw one. You've got to savor the buzz, dude.

6. She's not American.
Legal age to play lottery in the UK is 16. And yes at the tender age of 28 I got carded to ensure I was of age... first time I got carded and it wasn't even for booze!

Mark.

8. I wonder how it would've played out with a good boyfriend
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/465560/Boob-op-Callies-blown-the-Lott-National-Lottery-Callie-Rogers.html

How Lotto winner Callie blew the lot

At the time of the win, Callie was dating Gary Fidler, 25. He quit his timber-yard job, lived off the £200-a-day "wage" Callie paid him and blew cash meant for furniture on booze benders.

Callie's next love, Simon Winthorpe, was given a £7,000 car and £3,000 to be her chauffeur. Two weeks later he vanished - with the motor.

Then there was unemployed factory hand Nicky Lawson. Callie bought him a £15,000 sports car and they got engaged.

But she went on to accuse him of stealing £53,000, dumped him but dropped the allegation and discovered she was pregnant.

They got back together before their son was born - only for Lawson to get arrested for fighting. Amid escalating rows with her family, and battling depression, Callie overdosed on 60 pills.

Then in 2007 she gave birth to Lawson's daughter - only to discover two months later he had been bedding her sister.

She dumped him again, had a fling with trucker Joseph Galleen then took Lawson back briefly. He is currently fighting for custody of their daughter - and was granted a temporary residence order last week, which means the little girl is living with him.

11. It doesn't seem all that outrageous when it's itemized
I think if any of us here won the lottery we'd give money and houses to our families, and probably money to our friends as well as giving gifts to charities. There's also a trust fund for her (future?) kids in there, and I count gifts to five ex-significant others in there too. The plastic surgery line? Ping http://www.awfulplasticsurgery.com to see what happens when you go to the low bidder for that. About the only really "out there" expense I see here is the quarter-million quid spent on "partying." Overall it looks like a fairly decent spending plan, except for the quarter-million spent on throwing wild bashes out by the pool over the last six years.

As for the "holidays" line--I don't think I would spend 33,000 pounds on one year's vacationing, but then again I don't have two million quid sitting in the bank screaming "Aruba's nice this time of year."

But "OMG she spent a quarter-million quid on blow!" sells lots more papers than "OMG she bought her grandma a nice house and a new car!" Whatever makes the nut at the end of the week.

13. She had two boob jobs one to E(DD) and then to F

Not expensive, but I don't know. She seems to have had issues from her early childhood, in the video she mentions that she had depressions when she was 10 years old.

Two boob jobs boosted her 34C curves first to a DD then an F cup - and cost £13,000 in total
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/465560/Boob-op-Callies-blown-the-Lott-National-Lottery-Callie-Rogers.html

A close friend of Callie's said: "She hit an all-time low when she found out what he was doing. So she decided to give herself a lift by having a boob job.

"She first had them done after she won the lottery but wanted them even bigger. Now she feels unbelievably sexy.

26. And you had perfect financial acumen between the ages of 16 and 22, right?
One thing we seem to be losing sight of: we're talking about a teenager who won two million pounds in a lottery. She didn't do everything perfectly--certainly everyone here can find some decision she made that was screwed up. (And yes, I know under DU rules she was supposed to keep 50 quid for car fare and one meatless celebratory meal, and turn the rest of it over to the poor.) But overall, for someone with absolutely no experience in handling money in any great quantity, she didn't do all that bad. Compare her spending to Jack Whitaker, who was a businessman before he won the money and who made so many screwed-up decisions with it his wife has said on more than one occasion she wishes she would have burned the ticket the second she found out he'd hit the jackpot. Against Jack, this girl's a financial genius.

14. Winning the lotto can be tough to manage
Used to work in a bank, and I suggested to one of the trust guys that they should contact any big lotto winner and offer financial planning services. He told me they already had a couple lotto winners, and they ended up being high-maintenance and always getting into trouble and calling their trust officer to bail them out, literally or figuratively. So it had basically reached the point where they were far more trouble than they were worth, so they had no interest in pursuing more of these people.

19. Yeah. A couple of years ago, I made a hobby out of researching the "results" of winning.
It's not pretty. Most people think the money is really much more than it is, and try to massively upgrade their lifestyles. Which is what kills them.
