Any twitter experts here?
I signed up about 6 months ago to see what my radio station was posting (twitting?) and used a very unidentifiable and generic user name. Never looked on it again (seems stupid to me) but jsut now I got an e-mail from twitter saying someone I know is following me. I don't have any problem with that or the person, I just want to know how twitter "let" them know who I was???!!? :scared:

1. Is your friend a mutual fan of the radio station?
If so, then they can see everyone who follows the station... They may have guessed it was you based on your avatar image or screen name or something in your profile.

Twitter doesn't let anyone know... some users are pretty good detective, however.

One thing I don't like about Twitter is that my followers can see who I'm following... Which is not appropriate is all cases. ;-)

2. no, that is why I'm a little freaked
it is somebody from another country and culture!

they HAVE my e-mail and maybe they found the station through my real name - I ran for the board and there is lots of correspondence posted on the web - my name does come up associated with it, but the twitter thing? that is weird - I never posted, just read a few things one day.

is there a search function by e-mail address? I don't even remember my password and it is slow to load anyway (decrepit dial-up)

and the e-mail says they are following me, not inviting me to follow them....

3. You should set your privacy settings...
Check "Protect my tweets"... Otherwise all of your tweets are public and searchable.

Also, checking "Protect my tweets" requires that you approve anyone who wants to follow you.

Otherwise, I'm not sure how your friend found you.

4. I think I will just delete my account
(if I can do that?) as I have never tweeted nor seem to be interested in doing it in the near future.

I will send an e-mail to my friend and ask how he found me. I really need to write anyway as he and his wife had another baby recently and I never replied to that announcement. I spend way too much computer time here on DU, I really need to do some correspondence. Hey maybe I should just invite them all here!
